Should I file a regular Oregon State Tax Return since I was taxed Oregon State income tax, even though I did not live or work in Oregon at all?

I had a work training in Oregon in the year 2021 during the summer for less than 2 months. After completing the training, I was transferred to my new location in Washington State where I have continued to work ever since. (where I also reside). What I had not noticed until mid summer of 2023 was that my employer had never changed my state tax information, so I had been paying Oregon State Income Tax up until that point that I mentioned it and they changed it over to Washington State; however, I never got any compensation or refund for the Oregon State Income Taxes I had paid up until that point. Since I hadn't noticed it until this last summer, I hadn't thought about filing under Oregon State for the prior year so that information was not included when I filed last year. So, this year, since now I am aware of it, I am trying to figure out if I should be filing a regular Oregon Tax Refund or if there is a uncommon circumstance section I should fill out?

You end up having to file an OR non-resident tax return, but you claim that had zero $$ of OR income during the OR interview.      That might end up requiring you to file the OR forms by mail....don't know if OR requires paper in that situation or not.

For 2023 you can use the Online software ,,

_____________

,,,but for 2022 taxes, if you need OR withholding refunded, you'd have to use the Desktop software.

If you did file an OR nonresident tax return last year, but went ahead and left the OR wages as-is on the W-2, then you'd have to amend your OR tax return to  claim zero Oregon income.....again...mail-in on paper only.

In either case, the OR reviewer might come back and question your claim, and you'd just explain the situation at that time.
