Hopefully, everyone on this thread is signing up to be notified for updates to increase the failure count and get TT to fix this issue - See this TurboTax support FAQ for the problem and sign up for updates - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/why-am-i-not-able-to-e-file-my-state-return-after-...
I have the same problem and I am mad. I was just updated by Turbo, so that is not it. Every year there is a glitch and I say its my last year and this year will be it.
Mail the state in and save $25. That seems to be the solution.
I am having the same problem. Spent an hour this morning screen-sharing with TT support. Said try again Monday and call back if it still doesn't work. They had no idea what to do.
Once again......

Is Turbotax going to fix the problem? Its mid-March already and they are not responsive.
Same here. No errors in Federal tax return, yet Turbotax keep coming back that I need to file federal to file State even though Federal has been filed.
Yes, this is exactly my situation too. I am not entirely sure I’d Federal has really been filed. Typically I used to receive a confirmation email that Federal has been filed and then an acceptance email the next day.
I have not seen a confirmation email for transmittal email of the Federal e-file yet 3 hours later which is a bit suspicious.
What a screwup...Is there a way to escalate this?
I talked with a CSR today and they confirmed that my Federal tax return actually didn't went through, even though the software states it did.
I need to go back to this when i have access to my Turbotax (currently at work) for screensharing and hopefully a workaround. if none, I will just paper file both Federal and State as the CSR stated I may have to delete my tax return worst case and start from scratch LOL.
In any case, just be careful out there and don't assume your Federal return went through just because the software states so. If there is no confirmation email, it probably didn't.
I did receive a confirmation email from Turbotax that states "Your federal tax return was accepted by the IRS." And TT won't let me file a state return.
Are you saying this is not correct?

Yes, I know. I assume that this means it is a known bug. When is Turbotax going to fix it? My state says that there are delays with refunds for paper filings. I bought Turbotax to e-file my returns and get my refunds now.
Sulubat, if you received an email confirmation that your Tax return was accepted, than I think you can take that at face value.
My case is different, as my Federal return didn't go through even (much less was accepted). This may or may not be true for others as well. Apparently the software issue comes in many flavors...
I received the email confirmation and text message confirming that IRS has accepted my Federal Tax return, similar to what I have received in prior years, so I didn't doubt it.
If you are saying that is not the case, then TurboTax really screwed up!! This is people's tax return we are talking about and nobody wants to be messed with IRS. I wonder what Intuit is doing and if there is a plan to fix it. This is huge disappointment.
Same issue experienced here. Two years ago, after paying for filing the state return when submitting with the federal, my federal return was rejected due to someone else claiming one of the dependents on my return. The only solution was to mail in my federal and state returns but I was not able to receive a refund for the payment to file electronically. Starting last year, I would file my federal return and make sure it was accepted by the IRS before going back in to file (pay to file) my state return. This year the system will not allow me to file it with the same error as others (go back and select e-file for federal but it is already selected, transmitted, accepted by IRS, etc.). HELP! ect
Issue is now resolved after today’s 3/19 update. I could e-file. Both my state and my federal tax return without issues.
