How do I enter my 740-NP-R

I have followed the following steps:

taxbs.jpg

And I still get this caution message:

Is there somewhere that I actually need to upload/enter my 740-NP-R?

Or is this a bug that I can ignore?

TurboTax will create Form 749-NP-R.

  1. Select State Taxes in the left column
  2. Then Prepare State
  3. On Status of your state returns, select Add another state if you do not see Kentucky. Then add Kentucky or Continue
  4. On Your Recommended Kentucky Form, tap Select a Different Residency if you do not see Nonresident-Reciprocal State (Form 740-NP-R)
  5. If you do, Continue.
  6. On Nonresident Reciprocal Return, say YES to Were you a nonresident of Kentucky for the entire year
  7. On Select Your Reciprocal State(s) Your resident state should already be checked in the dropdown. If not, put a check beside your resident state
  8. On Nonresident Reciprocal Return, say YES to Are you reporting only income from salary or wages earned while you were a resident of xxxx.
  9. You will see Attach Resident State Return. then Continue

How do I enter my 740-NP-R

I have followed the steps above, however, there is no option to attach a copy of my 740-NP-R.

After clicking continue, it does not take me to a page with an option to upload my 740-NP-R.

Where would I go to upload my 740-NP-R?

Kentucky wants you to attach a copy of your "resident return," your home state return. TurboTax will create Form 740-NP-R. That's what the KY program is doing.

How do I enter my 740-NP-R

Where would I attach a copy of my home state return? (in this case it would be Ohio as that is where I currently permanently reside) What is the name of the Ohio income tax return form?

Also, I don't see any option to upload another form, where would I go to do that?

I have gone through and done all the steps for the Ohio portion of my state taxes, but I still get the warning that I need to attach a copy of my 740-NP-R.

If you were a nonresident or part-year resident and you lived in a state that has a reciprocal agreement with Kentucky you must file form 740-NP-R.  The states with reciprocal agreements are Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

If you lived in one of these reciprocal states for a part of the year, be sure the correct states of residence/employment are indicated in Federal "My Info". Then go back to the Kentucky interview and in the residency area select the  "Nonresident form 740NP- R" vice Nonresident 740NP form. If you or your spouse were a nonresident or part-year resident of KY but not in a reciprocal state, you would file form 740-NP.  Be sure to verify in the Kentucky interview that the "Nonresident Form 740NP" is selected.

If you are a resident of KY you should file form 740. Go back to Federal "My Info" and check your residence information to show you and your spouse lived and worked only in KY.  Be sure to also check the Kentucky interview to select the "Resident" form.

Once you've determined that you need to file a nonresident state return, the first thing you want to do is make sure you've filled out the Personal Info section correctly:

  1. With your return open, select My Info in the left-hand menu.
  2. Then, on the Personal info summary screen, scroll down to Other State Income, and select Edit.
  3. At the,  Did you make money in any other states? the question, answer Yes and make sure your nonresident state(s) are selected from the drop-down.
  4. Select Continue to return to your Personal info summary.

I have done the steps you listed and it still tells me I must complete the form 740NPR. It will not let me file my taxes without doing this. Where do I go to complete that form. Nothing in this thread has worked thus far.

When you have multiple state returns, you should generally complete the nonresident state return first - in this case, Kentucky Form 740 NP-R. TurboTax will prepare the form from your entries in the Kentucky interview.

The prompt you saw in the Kentucky interview asking you to attach a copy of your resident (in your case, Ohio) return to your Kentucky return is in case you are mailing in your returns. If you e-file, TurboTax sends one complete package to the IRS and states.

Once you have completed your Federal and State returns, you can preview them to see all of the forms that TurboTax has prepared from your entries. See here for details.
