This worked for me on the Federal. Thanks!
Also, for those interested, this is being discussed in a separate thread here: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/retirement/discussion/when-will-the-pension-annuities-ira-workshee...
They cite March 5 as a fix date. But today is March 5, and I just tried to fix the state return with no luck. Still getting the same message.
@Anonymous or anyone else at TurboTax (does someone have a support handle to mention on this?) ... Do you have any other info on a fix for this??
The response I just got from Denetria, a product support specialist for TT:
"As of now, there is no exact date that this form will be updated. The estimated date is Mid-March."
I followed up with the question: Can TurboTax guarantee that a fix will be in place prior to the filing deadline for state returns? Response:
"That is the latest date. And yes of course the form will be fixed before the filing deadline. The state forms 8915-E are a bit behind. You can check back later on today, updates to the site typically take place in the afternoons."
Still unable to file NYS. Still waiting for a software update.
just spoke to Jeff of TT customer service. He told me his supervisor informed him the form woul be ready March 18th. Hopefully this helps
TT now has an official post on this issue:
If you withdrew from retirement because of COVID-19 and have Form 8915-E on your federal return, you may have gotten a “Check this Entry” message stopping you from filing your state return.
We’re working hard to incorporate this new form into all the states in TurboTax. To ensure that your return is accurate, check back after March 19 to file your return. We should have it ready by then!
UPDATE: TurboTax seems to have just released an updated online version (v. 754) and I was able to file my New York state return without the "Fix Return" error.
HOWEVER, I did go back to Federal and edit/resave my 1099-R forms, which had a slight effect on the final numbers for federal and state returns, so that seems like a good idea, especially if you haven't filed your federal return yet.
Glad this is out of the way and we can all move on with our lives!
I'm having an issue E-Filing NYS since I filed my federal return last week. Turbotax indicates that E-file requires a Federal return. I've already E-Filed the federal return. If I select to file by mail for my federal just to try and get by the screen, Turbotax does not want to E-File the state.
Although you can e-file your federal and state taxes together, if you choose to e-file your federal first, you'll have to wait until that return has been accepted before you can e-file your state.
Once your federal return has been accepted you should be able to e-file your New York State return.
To e-file your return:
@Adam6952 Are you using the Desktop program? There is a recent State Efile error in the Desktop program. Please sign up on this FAQ

Yeah, the desktop version is still broken for e-filing state after e-file of federal.
I have the same "we need more information" loop problem for the California return. What's wrong with you, TurboTax? I see that it's been happening since 2019. Why can't you fix the problem?
TurboTax is working diligently on the outstanding issues for this tax season. Please note that we are working with the IRS to update software for the new tax changes and Stimulus payments.
