Download State Program For 2020

Hello,

I purchased TT 2020 on DVD which included 1 free state program.  I need to amend this return (I am still within statute of limits).  I successfully reinstalled my 2020 porogram but cannot download state program for that year.  Since I paid for it (included in cost of disk) how do I download program?  (I switched computers and no longer have original program files).

Sorry, but those States, and the proper software updates you need to do it are no longer available. 

You'll have to prepare the amendments manually on the paper forms provided by the IRS, and the state on their websites....or visit some local tax pro to do it.

IF you have the 2021, 22, 23 disk too...get them installed, updated, and states downloaded now.  2021 will disappear this year sometime after 15 April..(or 15 October ?).

Nope, can't even use 2021 or 2022 files.  Even though I have the ttax file o=for both years; after installing the programs, it won't open the files.  Instead it forces me into the shopping cart to repurchase the state programs that I have already paid for and are included in my saved program file.  When I click on select "one free program" the only option is to try downloading that agains as well which throws me back into the shopping catrt without opening my file.

I spent an hour on phone with tech support and they closed the trouble ticked after sending me text to retstart my computer (as if I haven't been doing this for 30 years).  That didn't work either.  

Seems to be a problem if you chnage computers, even if you saved your ttax file, and your disk, I cannot access old files.

First of all you won’t be able to install or update 2020 anymore.  They stopped supporting 2020.  So you won’t be able to download the state either.

For 2021.   Before you try to open your return you need to download the state programs.  After you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had.   So you first need to start a FAKE return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).

You should be able to download the paid for state.  Access your downloads here

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.  You can ignore or delete the fake return.
