Aarrrrgh. Why is TT so frustrating? Wonderful way to do your taxes - but too many shortcomings of info.
For instance, I just finished my California Non Resident Return. I look at Form 540NR at the refund section. It has the space to put in Direct Deposit information. TT interview does not ask for Direct Deposit info or offer that option. On the form, can't override to put in the info. Same is true of AZ return. It's 2023, I can't get direct deposit from a state tax return?

You can't just explain to me Direct Deposit on this forum? I'd rather not be calling robot phone. Thanks.
You should be able to choose Direct Deposit for both Arizona and California refunds.
If you're expecting State Refunds, in the File interview, you should be asked 'How do you want to receive your refund?' and be presented with options that apply to that state. If you transferred last year's return, the account info from last year may have transferred also. If this applies, here's more info on Changing Transferred Direct Deposit Info.
If you're looking at a PDF copy of your return, look at the Filing Instructions page for your state returns to see how your refund is being handled.
If you're using TurboTax Online, here's more info on How to Change My Refund Method.
For TurboTax Desktop, go through the File interview again. The question comes up almost at the end of the section, just before filing. You are asked to enter your bank routing/account numbers twice.
You're right, the interview should ask me about Direct Deposit. I just went thru AZ and CA again, and it does not. And I did have an AZ return from last year, but it did not transfer bank information. Looking at 2021 AZ return I see my banking information. I'm using Desktop version of TT Home and Business, guess that info does not carryover to this forum. Just tried once again to enter Direct Deposit info directly to AZ Form 140NR. Can't enter the information. Yes, it should. Yes, TT has done this in the past (asked for Direct Deposit info). It's always something with TT. Can't just cruise thru six tax returns without a hitch. Disgusting to have to pay $45 for an extra four state returns, when TT has all the information already. Disgusting that I should pay state income tax when I do one four day job in AZ. This is my 3rd TT issue this year.
I appreciate the quick answers from the forum.
Wish you could do a little more digging to find out why this year I can't Direct Deposit.
TT Desktop Home and Business Mac OS Ventura 13.1. TT is updated.
No, we can't see your return in this forum.
Unless we can duplicate your situation in a test return, it's difficult to determine the cause of your problem unless someone else has the same issue. In my test return, the screen asking 'how do you want your Arizona refund' comes up after entering driver's license info.
Are you able to enter Direct Deposit info in Forms mode on the Arizona/California Information Worksheets?
You could try reaching out to TurboTax Support, where they can get into your return. Otherwise I would suggest deleting your state returns, and stepping through the interviews again. You don't have to pay again, since you already have the states downloaded.
With TTD, you get one free state. Each additional state would cost $45, and it would be $25 for each state Efile.
When you pay tax in a Non-Resident State, your Resident State gives you credit for that, so you are not double-taxed. Make sure you indicated in the MY INFO section that you 'earned income in other states'.
Here's more info on How to File a Non-Resident State Return.
I'm glad you sent screen shot of Info Worksheet. I was able to enter Direct Deposit info for AZ, CA and NY. I got a red "X" on the Ohio worksheet and when I ran smart check it flagged that and said this was not available for paper return. I presumed Ohio would be electronic filing. I guess they are stuck in the 20th century. Or do you have a workaround? First time filing Ohio return. Again, never in all the interviews was direct deposit offered.
<<With TTD, you get one free state. Each additional state would cost $45, and it would be $25 for each state Efile. >>
Believe me, I know this all too well. First objection - I go to AZ once for four days and that costs me $70 for TT return and filing. So, this year I have five state tax returns, because two "employers (I am really a freelancer, not an employee - no benefits, no guarantee, can be fired just like that by not hiring again - and was a 1099 contractor for both these clients for many years until the misguided government thought I would be better off as an employee)" deduct state taxes wherever I work. Funny, I traveled all over the country for CBS and they only deducted GA (my Home state) taxes. Same with NBC. And as a Sch C contractor, only paid home state taxes. I'm paying $280 for state returns. I think TT is ripping me off for the $45 for each state return. Rip off because TT has all the information already to fill out state forms. How about a break after buying the first one? I paid $80 to buy TT Home & Business. $45 per state is an injustice. OK, rip off.

I missed this if I suggested it. I don't think I did.
Thanks for your help - at least 3 of the 4 foreign state tax returns should do direct deposit now that you showed me the Info Worksheets.
<<When you pay tax in a Non-Resident State, your Resident State gives you credit for that, so you are not double-taxed.>>
GA tax rate is 6%. They will not give you credit for amounts above that paid to other states.
1. Ohio does file electronically. Review the red exclamation mark(s) to eliminate the errors using the step-by-step section of the program. Please reply with any additional information regarding Ohio after making corrections for us to help you.
2. When you file your tax return, you can leave comments there that are read by those able to make changes.
3. State tax credit: The credit will be the lower of the state tax liabilities on the same taxable income. You may owe your resident state, if they have a higher tax rate along with differences in how the taxable income is calculated.
1. Googled and discovered first time filers in Ohio cannot file electronically.
2. sure
3. I thought I stated same thing about tax credit. My home state is 6%, NY is 8%, CA, about the same. So, I will get only 6% credit.
4. I don't think working for less than a week in another state should obligate me to file a tax return.
5. I don't think Turbo Tax should charge $45 per state return when the whole Home and Biz package with one free state costs $80. TT finishes the state returns in ten minutes or less. And who would want to transfer that info manually thru extra states' website?
1. There are some limited instances where ODT does not have sufficient information to register a first time filer for Ohio. In these instances, using a 3rd party software is recommended.
