I live in Virginia. I think I can claim up to $12,000 in pension income deductible from my income for Virginia taxes. If that is true, how do I input that in Turbotax?

If I am allowed to deduct up to $12,000 in pension income for the state of Virginia, how do I input that into turbotax?

While entering your 1099-R, record exactly as the form reads.

Following the form, is a series of questions, verifying your entries.  One of the questions will be verifying your state of residence and the deductibility of the distribution.

Also, while in your Virginia state return, go the Income area and verify that the 1099-R information is entered correctly.  You will go to the Deductions section and verify you deductible portion of your distribution.

Virginia pension distributions are deductible up to $12,000 for seniors.  The following Virginia link is an interactive tool regarding tax benefits for VA seniors.
