TurboTax Desktop Basic 2024 refuses to bring up the SSA-1099 section during income entry.
I have tried View All under Retirement Plans and Social Security. I walks me back through the IRA distribution section. When that's done, the application seems to "burp" (brief flash on screen), then proceed to the Canadian Pension section.
From the Income Summary, I've attempted to use the Update button next to the Social Security topic. It gives me a "Please Wait" and returns to the top of the Income Summary.
I've tried the Search for SSA-1099 solution suggested in other user questions. Again, I land on the top of the Income Summary.
Got a little bug here?

I also tried another experiment today (Mon 2/3/25)
Did the Visit All on Retirement Plans and Social Security and walked through everything again. Of course, it "burped" again when it was time for the SSA-1099 section and landed on Canadian Registered Pension Income.
The experiment: I clicked the Back button from there.
Results: "Please Wait", a brief flash of the screen (the "burp"), and back to Canadian Pension stuff again.
There's definitely something wrong with my copy of TT Desktop Basic.
Thinking about an uninstall/reinstall, but not sure if it'll activate a second time.
A couple things to try:
1) Make sure you run the software updates first
2) Rt-click on the TTX desktop icon, and select "Run as Administrator"
still no go?
3) Shut down TTX, then check your Windows System OS for any OS updates waiting to be installed. Partially-installed updates are known to cause problems. Re-boot your computer even if you don't see any waiting.
Then try #2 again:

Customer Support:
Well, I seem to have solved the issue of at least ENTERING my SSA-1099 data.
Looks like you and I were typing at the same time.
Even though TTax applies updates on startup, I always do a Check for Updates before I get going.
My Windows 11 Home is up to date. I just haven't applied 24H2 yet. Tried last week and it died. Had to revert.
I've never had to run TTax as admin before, but if you see my post at the end about 'solving my own problem', that's what I did. Software still didn't function properly, but I was able to get my SSA-1099 numbers in this time.
Moving on to Deductions...maybe tomorrow. I'm done for today
Why aren't Intuit programmers fixing this problem!?!?!?!?!!!!!
When I click the UPDATE button, PLEASE WAIT flashes on twice and the program goes back to the top of the INCOME section.
There have several posts about this GLITCH in the last 3 weeks and it hasn't been fixed!!!!!!!
I keep checking for updates and there are NONE.
Doesn't Intuit monitor this forum??????
well...If you've run the full software updates, then apparently they haven't fixed the problem.
For a number of others, what the did was to Switch to Forms Mode, and added in some of their data on the actual SS Benefits worksheet....whatever $$ were appropriate on lines A, B, C, D, E of that worksheet.
Then, returning to the interview, they could now use the interview again.
________________
For others, the problem was traced to a Supporting Details (SD) worksheet that was attached to one of the SSA-1099 boxes that you used last year......and when the empty SS Benefits worksheet transferred into this year's taxes, the existence of that SD worksheet somehow was causing the software to skip over it in the interview. If you find that SD worksheet on one of the lines while entering data in Forms Mode, you should delete the SD worksheet (if you don't really need it), just in case the same problem shows up next year.
It is March 5 and I am "trapped" in the same problem. Went through all of the suggestions (got updates, restarted, powered off and on, etc.) and still cannot get social security to come up in income.
Has Intuit fixed this or responded yet?
Thanks
If you are working using the "Desktop" software.
Some found it got fixed by going to Forms Mode, and opening the SS Benefits worksheet, then going to teh bottom of the window and hitting the Delete Form.
It will regenerate.....but the interview may work now...if not, then you may have to enter Your SSA-1099 directly in that SS Benefits worksheet.
