Turbo tax won't let me re-enter social security income. How do I re- enter 1099 SSA?

It should. Go to federal>wages and income>retirement plans and social security. Once you have done this, the program should take you to the social security screen to make the change.

Try this link to the SSA-1099 in TurboTax and see if it will let you enter you reenter your form by following the prompts.  Click here: Form SSA-1099/Form RRB-1099

It should bring you to the screen before you enter your Form SSA-1099, then follow the prompts.

Also try this method:

1. Log into TurboTax .
2. Click on Federal from the menu on the left-hand side and then click on Wages & Income at the top.
3. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security, click "Show More" and then click on "Start" to the right of Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099.)
4. Enter the amounts from your form(s) where indicated. Net benefits go in Box 5 of the form and the income Tax Withheld will be recorded in Box 6.

You may have to start over and reenter your return in TurboTax.

Here's how to clear and start over:

1. Sign in to TurboTax and open or continue your return, if you haven't already.
2. Select Tax Tools from the left menu, then Clear & Start Over.
3. Answer Yes to confirm.

To Properly Remove your SSA-1099 Income :

1. Click on My Account located at the top of the screen.
2. Click on Tools.
3. Under Other Helpful Links select Delete A Form.
4. Select the form you would like to delete and Click Delete.

To properly enter a Form SSA-1099 in TurboTax (All SSA-1099 forms get entered in the same place):

1. Open (continue) your return in TurboTax
2. In the search bar, search for the term Social Security benefits and then select the Jump to link at the top of your search results
3. On the screen Did you receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits in 20XX? answer Yes and select Continue
4. On the next screen, check the box beside Social Security benefits (Form SSA-1099), then enter the amounts from your form(s) in the boxes provided
   • If you received multiple SSA-1099s, add up the amounts for each box and enter them together
   • Don't include SSA-1099s for dependents. Those should be reported on the dependent's return, but only if they are required to file a return (this is uncommon)
5. Select Continue and follow the on-screen instructions

Next double click --I do remember left or right click but double click.

A box will appear and enter your detail and do the same with the box for medicare premiums.

For 2021 since it is already late you will have to --not may have to-file an amended return.

Try it .

OR if you are filing late, then go to the VIEW tab on the top of the TT, click and again click on forms.

A window with working copies will pop up.

go to the relevent location on the 1040 form. Click OR override IF ARE IN THE process of filling the form.

Getting to the SSA-1099 page is not the problem.  The problem is the program will not allow me to enter any value for Box 5 amount either for me or my wife. The value for Medicare B works, I tried it to see if the whole page was dead, I've closed and reopened Turbo-tax and when that didn't work I closed every thing and rebooted my computer... Still no go.  I'm going to see if I can enter it in the Federal Work Sheet for SSA but either way there is a glitch in this years program.

Yes I've had a similar problem before but never not letting me enter any value.  I got around it by double clicking into the worksheet. All done.

Although I have yet to be able to duplicate TurboTax not letting you re-enter your Social Security information, if you are having the issue, you can follow these steps.  If using TurboTax Desktop:

1. Click Forms in the Right-Hand Corner
2. Click Social Sec
3. Enter the additional information needed
4. Click Step-by-Step in the right-hand corner

If using TurboTax Online, you will need to delete the form and then go back to enter Social Security again.  To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Tax Tools
2. Click Tools
3. Click Delete A Form
4. Select Delete, Social Security Benefits Worksheet
5. Continue With My Return
6. Click Wage and Income
7. Scroll down to Retirement and Social Security, Click Show More
8. Click Start next to Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)

Thank you Brittany. I tried that and it still did not work. Then I skipped and went to deductions. The software did not let me input real estate tax! I am using Microsoft Edge. Most disappointing, esp. since I have been using TurboTax Premium for the past several years. I appreciate your comment and interest.

I had the same problem. Don't know if you've fixed this yet but when you get to the box to enter your 1099SSA Double Click on it. This should bring up the Turbo Tax worksheets then enter your amounts in the worksheet. It is a 2022 glitch.  Good luck
