BillM223,
I agree with dmertz's reply. It does print out when you print the return to file, so I assume it is in the e-file packet.
I can delete the form before I file the return, but think it may void my 100% accuracy warranty from TurboTax.
Like dmertz said it is a bug in the program which only generates Form 5329-T if you use a date of birth that puts you over 59 1/2 years old. Under 59 1/2 and the form is not generated.
Thanks.
TurboTax is doing the same thing with code D, but only if code 7 is not present.
It does the same thing for me with both code 7 and code D present. The amount shown on the 5329 is entered on line 2 as an early distribution not subject to additional tax with a reason code of 12. The 12 definition is that it was incorrectly submitted with a code 1, J, or S in box 7. A frustrating bug for people who work hard at submitting a correct return.
Thank you for all this dialogue. In my case, both a 5329-t and 5329-s were generated even though both of us are well over 70. Oddly enough, both of them had my wife's RMD on Line 2-L. Neither of our 1099-R forms have a code U in box 7; rather that box has a code 7 and the IRA sub-box has an X. I have not experimented as you have with different ages. I did use the step by step. The presence of the 5329s doesn't seem to change the tax, as expected.
I'm reluctant to delete the form as I wonder whether that will result in some hidden box being checked to reject the return or trigger an audit.
This is definitely a bug.
