Payroll deduction Item

Under the tracking type for payroll items, I do not see anything that matches what we have. We have CalPERS PEPRA employee contribution. It is not an IRA, Simple IRA nor 457, or any other items. This was set up before me, and now it is labeled as "other". The issue is on the W-2's. The EE contribution is in the wrong box, so I am assuming under the incorrect item (other).  When an item is not listed, how should I move forward with the pre-tax deduction?

What's wrong with the W2?  Are you asking about entering your W2 into your tax return?  Where is it listed?  In box 12 or 14?  You should not change the W2.  If it is wrong the employer has to fix it and give you a corrected W2.   The PERS deduction should not affect your tax return.

Our Quickbooks may be incorrect regarding the item list on the payroll setup.  Our CalPERS pretax deduction is listed as "Other" as far as the drop-down menu where it would be listed on the W-2. I think it should be in box 12 therefore, it should not be listed as "other" since we as EE, pay into it as a pre-tax deduction. I would think having it incorrect would affect our taxable wages. I am new to QB, and this was already set up when I started this job. We are a small department (4), so I do the payroll.  It was brought to my attention from one of our EE CPAs that our pre-tax CalPERS PEPRA contribution should not be in the "Other" box 14 on the W-2. When I looked into it, none of the listed items seemed to match our retirement. PEPRA is not technically 401 K, Simple IRA., Roth, 457 or 501. So I was unsure where our CalPERS would fit if I removed it from "other".

I suspect you may be far better off discussing the issue with CALPERS personnel/staff directly, instead of a generic Public forum.....hit and miss right here in this Forum.

Here's one of their employer help pages (with a "Contact" link at the bottom which might lead you to more specific payroll/W-2 preparation helpers at CALPERS)
