I cashed out my fidelity account last year and they sent me a 1099-R. When I try to enter it, I get a screen that says "the IRS is still working on it; this area isn't finished yet." It also says that the form will be ready to enter on January 21, 2020. A MONTH AGO. Yet, when I first started my taxes on the turbo website, it DID let me enter it. Long story, but I bought the actual software from Amazon instead -- and yes, I updated it. But on my software, I get that message. What's the scoop?

Did you already file your taxes online? It sounds like your software either isn't updated properly or you are filing an amended return. What year and version of the desktop software are you entering the 1099-R into?
I didn't file yet. I deleted all the info on turbo's website and went the software route instead. It's the 2019 Deluxe version.
It sounds like your software is WAY out of date. If the normal update procedure is not updating the software then you need to do a manual update.

However, if you need a 8915B or 8915A for for disaster relief then those forms are being held by the IRS until March 26 and will be paper file only.
Thanks! That manual update did the trick!
I got the same problem for the 2020 tax year software and get the same response in turbotax concerning the IRS not being ready to handle retirement income! When I check for updates in turbotax it says my TT Deluxe is already UP TO DATE!!! This is frustrating since I cannot finish my taxes until I enter my 1099 R info. Is the IRS really having a problem with this area or do I have a bad version of TurboTax? It was bought in late Dec 2020 from Sam's Club. Please HELP!
P.S. should I try reinstalling the s/w or download it directly from... InstallTurboTax.com ... using the license code on the CD jacket?
The problem is with the form 8915-E. The Cares Act provided relief for individuals that took an early distribution from their retirement plan due to the pandemic. It provided for exclusion for the 10% early withdrawal penalty and the opportunity to spread the income realization from the distribution over 3 years. At this point and time, the Form 8915-E is not finalized. We currently do not have an estimated date when the form is ready.
Please sign-up here and we will email you once the form is live.
The pandemic has affected your taxes in many ways. Including reporting in TurboTax the amount of stimulus money you received. Click Here for more information on how the Pandemic affected your 2020 taxes.
