System not recognizing my military W-2

I have already entered my military W-2, and after going through a majority of the federal portion of the tax forms, the system asked if I had any military W-2. I clicked yes, and it took me back to the W-2 entry portion. I tried using the AI help to get a solution, but its solutions did not fix the problem.

I tried chatting with a representative, but the only option is a phone call, which I cannot utilize where I'm using my computer, but will try calling at a later date, but would like to get my taxes done sooner than later, so I would have rather actually text chatted with a person than an AI. Which is annoying but whatever.

I checked the forum which a 5 year old forum entry said to delete the W-2 and re-enter it. I did that and it still didn't recognize it. Another old post said to ensure that the active duty military check box is checked, and I've doubled checked to make sure I did not miss it and it is indeed checked, but the system still does not recognize it.

Is there anything more that can be done about this?

You are doing the right things, delete the w2, mark military. Your personal info section also needs to show military.  If your personal info and w2 are both marked military, then some data is stuck somewhere.

A full or corrupted cache can cause problems in TurboTax, sometimes you need to clear your cache (that is, remove these temporary files). For stuck information follow these steps:

Online version:

  1. Delete the form w2 again, see How to Delete
  2. Log out of your return and try one or more of the following:
    • Don't use Internet Explorer.
    • Clear cache and cookies,
    • Sign in using a different browser.
    • Sign in using a different device.
  3. Log back into your return.
    • Enter the information again.

Desktop version:

  1. Delete the form w2
  2. Save your return while closing the program.
  3. Update the program
  4. Open
  5. Enter the information again.

I followed the steps with the exception of a different device, and it still ask if I have a military w-2 after I re-enter the w-2 and select that it is an active duty w-2.

To ensure that you get the military discount, review your entries in the personal info section.

  1. Open TurboTax
  2. Select the dropdown by My info and select Edit
  3. Select Edit under Personal profile and check your entries
  4. Make sure that you have indicated your military status as of December 31, 2024?
  5. Make sure that you entered your highest military pay grade in 2024
  6. Enter an answer for combat zone or hazardous duty area you served in during 2024
  7. Select a state and select Assignment detail

On the next screen you will see the message: Yes! You qualify for our enlisted military discount.

@Atomsk

When you entered the W-2, did you actually check the box on the page AFTER the main W-2 page of entries, that indicated the DFAS W-2 was for Active Duty?   If not, you need to edit that W-2, and carefully look at that long full-page list of checkboxes for the one you need to check.
