Depends on your exact situation.
1) make sure ...in the My Info area, that you indicate WA as your state of residence...NOT VA.
as a military person your state is locked as your HOR no matter where posted. And do not indicate you moved during the year when you PCS to a different state.
2) Then, you do not indicate on the My Info page, that you had income in another state....unless:
....2a) You worked a side civilian job in any state outside WA
....2b) you own a rental property in some state outside WA that you received income from.
________
so, unless you met one of the #2 exceptions, make sure your state settings are correct in the My Info section.
...and you can remove VA..... How do I delete my state return in TurboTax Online? (intuit.com)
Oh. Shoot I accidentally put my address here in Va instead of WA. How do I tell them I made a mistake coz they’re charging me $600
You actually filed already?
Was the VA tax return actually "Accepted"?
If not "Accepted" yet, you can hope either Federal, or VA is rejected...then you can edit it and re-efile. (You can't stop it once you hit the Transmit button). A "rejected" Federal file automatically stops the state from being sent......or the state might be rejected by itself.
IF "Rejected" you can just edit and re-efile
BUT
IF it's "Accepted" then you'll have to amend
________________________________
To Amend: You can't touch anything now, until the "Rejected" or "Accepted" is returned to your file. IF you do need to amend, you can't even start that until mid-late Feb....because the Amend forms are not available until then.
Now.....in late February, you would likely have to prepare and file an amended VA tax return, indicating your proper state of residence to initiate the Non-resident of VA status, then work thru the VA Q&A to indicate ZERO for all types of VA income.
Note that the mailing address was immaterial....the indication that your resident state was VA during the entry of your personal info was likely the issue.
_________
Yes. Turbo Tax said I can ammend on February 15. Thanks for everything. I really do appreciate it.
