Tax help for military filers

You actually filed already?

Was the VA tax return actually "Accepted"?

If not "Accepted" yet, you can hope either Federal, or VA is rejected...then you can edit it and re-efile.  (You can't stop it once you hit the Transmit button).  A "rejected" Federal file automatically stops the state from being sent......or the state might be rejected by itself.

IF "Rejected" you can just edit and re-efile

BUT

IF it's "Accepted" then you'll have to amend

________________________________

To Amend: You can't touch anything now, until the "Rejected" or "Accepted" is returned to your file.  IF you do need to amend, you can't even start that until mid-late Feb....because the Amend forms are not available until then.

Now.....in late February, you would likely have to prepare and file an amended VA tax return, indicating your proper state of residence to initiate the Non-resident of VA status, then work thru the VA Q&A to indicate ZERO for all types of VA income.

Note that the mailing address was immaterial....the indication that your resident state was VA during the entry of your personal info was likely the issue.
