Why hasnt turbo tax generated a form 4562 for depreciation?

Well, your first question may expose the whole issue here. I didn't realize that I was supposed to download last year's data, nor was I instructed to. About 18 years ago I was a regular TurboTax user, and it always automatically pull my data from the last return, at least that's the way I remember it.

So, before I go any further, can I somehow initiate that procedure right now, or is it going to screw up all the work I've done so far with inputting everything?

To your other points, yes, I completely understand about the 4862 only appearing and/or being filed for the first year only regarding a certain property (asset). But I definitely am not getting the data filled in like your two examples depict.

So let's go with importing last year's data first, and see what happens. What's my next step?

Did you use the Desktop program last year or the Online version?   Sorry but if you want to transfer from last year you will have to start a new 2023 return and lose all your work so far.  Go up to File - NEW.  If you used the Desktop program last year it should find your file and ask if you want to transfer from it.

Are you on Windows or Mac?

If you used the Desktop program, you need the data file ending in .tax2022 to transfer. It should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder. Or search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2022.

If you used the Online version last year you need to download the .tax2022 file or there is a button on the start page to import from Turbo Tax Online.

Why hasnt turbo tax generated a form 4562 for depreciation?

All this info is very old. I placed a device used more than 50% into business in Nov 2022, I filed shedule C with TT, got a small deduction on line 13. Now I’m not able to see where my 2023 Depreciation is calculated with TT or even see if Turbo T even figured out that amount. I don’t see it in my totals.  I haven’t finished 2023 yet but I very much think I should see that calculation since my expense for the item has only been a dribble in 2022. It’s now been for a full year. It’s a 5 year item and should be reflected on my form. Do I have to go outside of TT and figure it myself?!!! Am I not paying TT to calculate this deduction?

Please see this link for directions on how to print out the depreciation schedule to see the amount of depreciation expense taken in 2022 as well as for the amount of depreciation taken in 2023.

If your asset is part of your Schedule C business, any depreciation expense currently being taken would be reported in part II, under line 13.

If you do not see an amount here, you may need to ensure you included the asset in the correct area of the interview program.  Any assets would be entered in the interview section of TurboTax for the business activity.  Proceed to enter the information for your business until you see a screen titled "any large purchases (depreciable assets)?". This is where your business assets would be listed.  As you proceed through the screens in this section, any assets you already have will also show up on the page titled "business asset summary" when you complete the input for any new assets acquired during the year.  Please see the screenshots below for additional support.
