Returns Rejected - 2018 AGI incorrect

I have reentered the 2018 AGI from my 2018 tax return.  I have resent my returns several times.  They keep getting rejected because of the 2018 AGI.  What do I do now?

If the IRS rejected your return because they stated you submitted an incorrect AGI and you are sure you entered a correct one we suggest that you check with the IRS to make sure that the copy of your return is the same as what they have in their records. Sometimes the IRS makes adjustments to tax returns. To do this, you can order a tax return transcript.   Please see this TurboTax FAQ for more information: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/rejections/help/what-if-i-entered-the-correct-agi-and-i-m-still-getting-an-e-file-reject/00/27031

@billyhall   Tell you what?

For AGI Reject code 031
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/rejections/help/e-file-reject-ind-031-04-or-ind-032-04-the-agi-or-self-select-pin-from-last-year-doesn-t-match-irs/00/27197

When did you file 2018? If it was late in the year try putting in zero for the AGI. And see, https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/rejections/help/what-if-i-entered-the-correct-agi-and-i-m-still-getting-an-e-file-reject/00/27031

If your spouse died during 2019 there is a problem efiling and you will have to mail your return

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

I am getting the AGI doesn't match message and the number imported is matching the transcript/.  If I file electronically and it fails again, can I refile using another program (HR BLOCK, TAX ACT), that doesn't have this problem, or will my rejected TurboTax return cause problems with the IRS.

Your return was rejected because your 2018 AGI didn't match the IRS records.

The rejecting will not cause any problems with the IRS.

If your return keeps getting rejected, you can print it and mail it in.

This is a TT issue and needs to be fixed ASAP since it has been reported for quite some time.

I submitted the returns for my friend, whose husband passed last year, using the downloaded version just like I have for many years. I kept getting the AGI incorrect for him (even though they have always filed married/jointly). We retrieved the IRS transcript and sure enough, I was using the correct AGI. Tried again. Rejected. Tried using 0 as some have suggested. Rejected. Tried leaving blank. Rejected.

I then went to H&R Block's site and submitted from there. Accepted and being processed.

Turbo Tax. Admit that there is a bug and please fix it.

The IRS requires that your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) from your tax return from the previous year be included with any tax return e-filed this year.

You can find your 2018 AGI on Line 7 of your Form 1040.

If you had filed with TurboTax last year, the AGI would have been automatically added to the return. If you did not file with TurboTax last year (or if you filed in a different TurboTax account), you will need to enter the AGI from last year manually. The AGI is added near the end of the filing process, just before filing the return.

To find the AGI from a different TurboTax account, sign in to that account, then scroll down on the opening page until you get to Your Tax Returns and Documents. Chose 2018 and download your tax return.

If your previous year tax returns are not available, you can use the IRS Get Transcript tool. Try the online option first. If you are unable to obtain the transcript online, you can have one sent to the address the IRS has on record for you. You can find IRS Get Transcript here.

Did you file a joint return last year? Your AGI is found on the 2018 form 1040 line 7.

If your tax return continues to be rejected with the 2018 AGI then enter a 0 (zero) for the AGI and e-file again.

If this is also rejected then you will have to print and mail the tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for printing a tax return for mailing - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online...

mine has done this so many tiimes I decided to print and file, which defeats the purpose of using a site like this!  I am married filing jointly, just as I have done on tt since 2005.   I have entered married/joint on the profile, I went about my business, I tried several suggestions, then finally printed it.  my printed return says US INDIVIDUAL INCOME TAX RETURN  yes, I went back to my profile again, it says married/joint, which explains why I could edit my agi, but there was no place to enter my husband's agi no matter what I did.  TURBO TAX, PLEASE FIX THIS, AND IF OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS PROBLEM, PLEASE OFFER SOME FINANCIAL RESTITUTION.  I KNOW I WILL NOT BE USING TURBO TAX NEXT YEAR Based on this nonsense!

ps....every return is an INDIVIDUAL tax return.  It is a personal return not a Business return.

I found out how to avoid getting that error message! My FIL passed away last year. My MIL is the surviving spouse. I kept getting the error message when I e-filed that many people have posted about. I switched the order of the two names, to put my MIL first, and the return was accepted! I was able to keep the deceased box checked for my FIL and I put "widowed" for my MIL.  Yay! Didn't have to submit by paper!
