Your state of residence is where your true, fixed and permanent home is and where you intend to return. Based on this Illinois Department of Revenue website, you would be considered a non-resident of Illinois:
"Nonresident – You are a full-year resident of a state other than Illinois.
Example: Rob, who is from Missouri, attends college in Illinois (and pays nonresident tuition). Rob is a full-year nonresident, even though he lives in Illinois for nine months of the year while attending school."
In the My Info section of TurboTax, did you select California as your state of residence? Even if your mailing address that you entered in TurboTax may be in Illinois, you can select your actual state of residence on the Your info page as California. If you do that, your Illinois return will be a non-resident return and your California return will be a resident return.
When you do go to prepare your state tax returns, make sure to prepare the Illinois non-resident return first. If you already started both state returns, you may want to delete them and start over so that the correct information gets carried through on them. To delete state returns in TurboTax Online:
Click on State on the left side menu, then click Go to state return in the lower right corner
Click the trashcan icon to the right of the state return, then click Delete on the pop-up to confirm deletion. Repeat this for the 2nd state return.
Click on +Add another State, select a state from the dropdown, then click Continue. Repeat this for the 2nd state.
In Turbo Tax Desktop:
Click the State Taxes tab, then Continue
Click File in the black banner on the left and select Remove State Return from the dropdown
Highlight a state return, then click Remove. Repeat that for the 2nd state return.
The states will still be present on the Your State Returns page, but all the previous data are cleared so that you can start over on them.

Beginning Inventory is reported on your prior year Schedule C Part III Cost of Goods Sold Line 42 (Inventory at the end of year).
Are you required to report inventory? You aren't required to report inventory (Cost of Goods Sold) if your gross receipts were under $26 million over the last 3 years. Most small business owners prefer to expense materials and supplies as they are purchased to avoid the additional work required to account for inventory.
If not, and you had no ending inventory last year, you can skip it this year. Or zero out your inventory this year by reporting no purchases and zero ending inventory.

Go to Hawaii Department of Taxation's Tax Refund Status site and if needed, contact the Hawaii Department of Taxation. State refunds typically take up to 3 weeks for e-filed returns and up to 4 weeks for mailed returns, though processing times vary by state, so you are well over the expected wait time.

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities. There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.
TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act. Do not expect your refund before early March

Note: “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”. TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing. Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing. If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.
