Hi -- thank you for the response.  I followed the steps you provided and it did not work.  I am still getting the same error message.  It is saying I need to update my spouse's enrollment status on his Person on the Return Worksheet.  I also tried deleting the worksheet from the Form list but it says it cannot be deleted.

The state tax can not be deducted from the federal refund. NEVER. You can only have the Turbo Tax fees deducted. You will still get the full federal refund minus any fees you had deducted. Turbo Tax just shows you a screen at the end showing the Net amount of federal and state combined. But it is just for your own info. You do still have to pay the state yourself separately. See, https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/state-taxes/help/can-i-pay-my-state-taxes-from-my-federal-refund/00/26288 Check the printout or PDF of your return; look for the state cover sheet with the Turbo Tax logo. If you owed tax, it will show the payment information and how/when you decided to pay. Read the state payment instructions carefully since most states cannot be paid from within the TT system and requires additional steps.   Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card showing the payment coming out. Turbo Tax only passes your bank account number to the state for the state to take it out of your account. But most states do not let you pay by Direct Debit so you have to mail in a check or go directly to the state's website to pay. And better double check your bank account and routing number with your bank. Some banks use a different routing number for deposits and payments.

If you opened your return after filing and changed even one small number (perhaps to "see what would happen" or to test a deduction) before clicking the "Amend" button, TurboTax now thinks that "changed" version is your original. When you then start the amendment, it pulls those "in-progress" numbers into Column A.   If you are certain you didn't touch the file before amending, it's possible there were software updates after the time you filed and before you amended. The new calculation (especially for complex credits like the Premium Tax Credit) might retroactively apply to your "Original" column, causing a mismatch with what you actually e-filed months ago.   To fix this, go into Forms Mode, open the 1040X Worksheet, and manually correct the figures in Column A to match your original 'as-filed' return. This ensures the software calculates the 'Change' (Column B) correctly based on the 'Correct Amount' (Column C)."     How to amend my return?   This thread might also be helpful: community thread

Hey @MaryK4! We got the info from our custodian, and it seems like the distribution was lower than the contribution because of market fluctuations.    For box 2a (earnings), should I enter the negative difference? Or just set it at 0? Thanks!

I had started the thread (issue with TT Desktop return-checking finds no errors, but the return submission is rejected on 'potential HSA errors').  For today's submission attempt, I didn't change anything from the prior rejected return.  This time the return is accepted - suggests the issue is now resolve for TT Desktop (was reported solved for online version 2 days ago).  Thanks to all who helped in reporting and resolving this issue.

Sounds like something got stuck. I know you are using the desktop version, but it still connects to the internet when signing in. You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

If you have no income why are you filing a tax return?  There are no special credits for being a student.  If you are under 24  your parents can probably claim you as a dependent.

Did you e-file that incorrect return?   If you did not e-file, then clear out the 2024 information you entered and use the account for your 2025 return.   Online is only for 2025 returns---- no other year.      If you already e-filed, then you have to wait to see what happens.   It will likely be rejected, but if it is accepted, you will have to wait until the return is fully processed and then you will need to file an amended return to remove the 2024 income and use your 2025 income.     You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2025 only.   Only a 2025 return can be prepared online and only a 2025 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and  2024 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0     https://www.irs.gov/refunds   Refunds for tax years 2021 or earlier have been forfeited and will not be paid to you even if shown on the tax return form.  But if you owe tax due, you will still have to pay, and you will be billed later for the interest and penalties owed.  TurboTax will not calculate the penalties or  interest.   That will be done by the IRS/state after they receive your return with your payment of the tax due as shown on the tax form(s).       When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Patricia,   I finally gave in and deleted the asset as turbo tax recommended several times.  When I answered the questions to re-enter the asset exactly as it was before, the software now shows the wrong Depreciable Basis for the asset (residential real estate) and incorrectly shows the 2025 depreciation for the asset as $7,980 instead of $2,299 as it was before in Form 4562 (Depreciation and Amortization Report).  Now that the asset has incorrect information after deleting and re-entering it, how do we correct Form 4562 using online turbo tax?  This is exactly why I didn't want to delete the asset and waited patiently for six weeks for Turbo Tax to correct the issue with the software.  I am on hold now with customer support and so far, they have been of little help.  I have spend more hours trying to fix this issue than I did preparing my taxes and this customer support process has been very frustrating.  If I have to start the return over now due to turbo tax's software issues, this will definitely be the last year I use turbo tax and I will make sure to post about my experience in online forums.
