It's related to a roth 401K, was marked as roth in the follow up question and during the review is still choking on this one form (I had 4 to enter, the rest are okay).

@Hal_Al Hello, If possible could you please give your input if I have done this correctly to claim the AOTC? I am trying to claim the AOTC credit for my student that is in their third year of college. Our 1098 T info: BOX 1: $51,369 .00 BOX 5: $52,425.00 Student at least half time: X [The rest of the blanks on the form are empty.] QEE (books): $23 Room & Board amounts paid for the 2025: $9,509 Scholarship Amount restricted to Tuition ONLY: $36,050 Can we allocate $5,035 of his scholarship money (the best I can tell this is the amount needed to receive the full AOTC credit) to his room & board and claim that for my students income? (They earned $5,977.60 over summer with research position at a college in PA (students lives and goes to college in MO the rest of year), they received a W2 for this PA job and that was their only income - so even with the $5,035 that's not enough for them to be *required* to file their taxes, correct? But I think we will to have a record on file and receive the small refund he would get from PA.) This gives me the following: Education Credit $1,500 Refundable American Opportunity Credit $1,000 For a total of $2,500 Does this look correct? Or do I need to do something differently? Adding both amounts I get a total income of $11,012.60 for my student, which is below the standard deduction I believe. Also, I would like to file taxes for them to be able to receive the $367 they paid into PA. I believe we file for both states: PA & MO (no MO income or refund). Best I can tell they will receive $0 from both states, but $367 from Federal refund. Does this sound accurate or I have made a mistake somewhere or need to do something differently? This is the first year we have out of state (PA) income, so that is new for me. Editing to add: Our student was refunded $1,056 in scholarship money, after all fees were paid. I am not sure if that needs to be added anywhere? Or if its already a "known" since its evident from the 1098T that they received more $ in scholarship than qualified tuition. Thank you in advance.

Im missing documents related to the processing disclosure and paying the fees with refund in my tax documents center. There isn't any option to see more or to select these and when I download return, its only the 1040. Whereas previous years include all documents when downloading. I elected to have refund processed and pay the software fee out of refund. I dont have access to these documents I signed. Ive already called support. All she thought was maybe it was a glitch. But didnt provide me with my documents. If my return is delayed, i would like to have those other documents I signed. I am aware i will be getting an emal if delayed beyond a certain time frame so that I can pay the fees. But I still need these for my records.

If you have already tried all of the troubleshooting steps posted in this thread, and still have not been able to activate your TurboTax for Mac download, I recommend that you contact TurboTax customer support for further assistance.
Among the possible options they may be able to assist with is to try a new license code, or try a Windows version.

If your W-2G line 18 is blank, but you did have local tax withheld, you can just type in the name of the city where the casino is located (or your home city if gambling online).
If you did not have local tax withheld, leave boxes 16-18 all blank, even if information is populated on box 16.

It's unclear why this happens. A self select PIN is simply and five digits you choose and is not required to use the same as on the original or year to year returns. I did see something similar for an amendment and if you want to try it there's no harm for entering a zero AGI, If it goes through that's great but if not, mail is the option.
If this doesn't result in an e-file, you may need to mail the amended return(s). Be sure to get a mail confirmation if this mailing is required.

This is crazy... Estimated tax entry section doesn't show on my online menu but the link you provided re-opened my filing on a new tab window with the estimated tax screen showing. This version of Turbo Tax REALLY is poorly designed and/or implemented. Thank you for the link to save my filing.

Enter at Educational Expenses and Scholarships, under Deductions and credits (not the income section). After answering no to having a 1098-T, answer yes to qualifying for an exception (that gets you to the entry screens). You will have to go thru the whole education interview to get to the scholarship screen. At the scholarship screen, enter the amount of the grant. When asked if any was used for room and board, answer yes. Then enter the amount you want to be taxable, in the pop up box. R&B are not "qualified educational expenses". So, this is how you tell TT that it is taxable. Note the wording at that screen “or other expenses”. You didn’t have to literally use the scholarship for R&B. This will put it on line 8r of Schedule 1.
Here's a post on the five main points on the 1098-T (and educational expenses in general). In particular, note the "loop hole":

Scholarships are a hybrid between earned and unearned income. It is earned income for purposes of the $15,750 filing requirement (2025) and the dependent standard deduction calculation (earned income + $450). It is not earned income for the kiddie tax and other purposes (e.g. EIC). For grad students and post grad fellows, scholarship, stipend and fellowship income is earned income ("compensation") for IRA contributions.
Taxable scholarship goes on line 8r of Schedule 1, from which TT treats it as hybrid income.

Yes, property taxes on vehicles which are deductible as an itemized deduction on Schedule A are those vehicle taxes based on the value of the vehicle, which the MA excise tax is. Enter the excise tax amount in that field, and it will flow through to your itemized vs. standard deduction calculation (whichever is higher).

I am a Ma resident but will be starting a hybrid job that is in IL where I am traveling. I work from MA most days virtually. I expect around 45 days in IL for the year. My workplace is withholding MA taxes. Do I still need to file IL non resident taxes? How much IL tax will I have to pay if I’m only there 45 days? Does buying a vacation home in IL change anything?
