I had the same problem and solved it by quiting and restarting Turbotax.

After about three hours on the phone with Intuit today and getting nowhere in resolving the rejection issue (submittal has been rejected 6 times now), it occurred to me that my HR department has an incorrect address on my W2 AND on my HSA forms and perhaps this discrepancy is what's causing the rejection at the IRS -- since the address on my 1040 does not match the address on my W2 (HR literally got my house number wrong but, strangely, I still received them in the mail!). I realize this is pretty far out there in left field, but does anyone else have any sort of similar mismatch between their W2 and their 1040? I'm suspecting that this might be the cause of the rejection, so plan to request that HR provide amended W2 and HSA forms so that they go to the IRS correctly. Just another guess...

Last year (TY 2025), I sold close to $500,000 in stock, nearly all of which was long term capital gains reported to the IRS.    This shows up correctly in TT for my Federal Return, but doesn't seem to register at all when I click in to State Taxes to work on my WA return. TT also completes its "State Review" with no errors, and says I am due a refund of $0 (and don't need to file a state return).   What is going on? How do I get TT to recognize that I owe WA cap gains excise tax on my cap gains?   Thanks!

Thanks for your response. When I click to the right of IRA 401(k) Pension Plan Withdrawal (1099-R) (Learn More) the a window opens containing information but no mension of substitute 1099-R. If I click to the far right (Update) I see a summary of the information I have entered for that section and an option to add a 1099-R but not a substitute 1099-R. If I click the 1099-R link I am able to add the information received in the 1042-S and the information is saved as a 1099-R. At no time is there a link to file a substitute 1099-R. In prior years this option was available but not in the 2026 version, at least as far as I can see. I am running Home and Business Desktop. Any other suggestions?

I'm trying to file for 401k over contribution excess amount correction, I have already withdrawn the excess amount but didn't receive a corrective 1099-R. My excess contribution was split between traditional 401(k) and Roth 401(k). For traditional 401k excess amount, I reported the number in the "Miscellaneous inform, 1099-A, 1099-C" section. For Roth 401k excess amount, there is a "Roth 401(k) taxable amount" (interest) component and a "Roth 401(k) non-taxable amount" component. For the "Roth 401(k) taxable amount" component, I reported the number in the "Miscellaneous inform, 1099-A, 1099-C" section. I'm guessing I don't have to report anything for the "Roth 401(k) non-taxable amount" component since it should already be reflected on W2. Can someone help me confirm if this is the correct way to do it?

Actually TurboTax does NOT fill out everything for you if you're filing with multiple children subject to kiddie tax. It wants you to fill in numbers from Worksheets - in my case Worksheet 3 - but then it asks for line S and there is no line S. Plus it's asking for the same number on two different lines? It's VERY confusing and not at all automatic. I'm in hour 5 of trying to figure it out. Any help is appreciated!

This was a bug in last year's Turbotax but I ran into it again this year. When you are done with a couple's tax returns and are at the screen to print the tax returns. There is an issue with Turbotax not printing the selected spouse, it always prints one of them that was not selected.  I believe you have to close Turbotax and start it again so you can select the other spouse to print. I do this after Saving the tax returns so it could be related to that being done first.   Also, when checking a T5008 Turbotax doesn't prompt you to enter the disposal date until the tax return checking stage.  Could it not flag that as something that needs addressing while you are in the T5008 verification stage.   One more issue, seems like Turbotax calculates your 'income' from T5008 incorrectly.  It just put on $200,000 at the sum to start for some unknown reason.  Later it calculates the capital gains correctly but I have no idea why it originally showed $200,000 as the gain.  The actual figure was nowhere close to that amount.   Thank You

The system generated my Californian 8453-LLC. It correctly marks that my tax return is self prepared. But it also shows "paid preparer " as checked. I wonder if this is because I marked that I paid $55 for tax prep last year - because I bought TurboTax. 1. Can I claim my purchase of TurboTax software as the "Tax preparer" fee? 2. is this the reason this line is checked? and is that okay that the actual field is empty (No ERO's PTIN)?
Thank You Mary.  That did the trick.
