Admin work.     You can claim the home office as your primary place of work if: You use it exclusively and regularly for administrative or management activities of your business (like billing, booking, advertising, and ordering supplies). You have no other fixed location where you conduct a substantial amount of these administrative or management activities. In your case, even though your "revenue-generating" work (the spa services) happens at your suite, your home office is where you do necessary admin work.   As long as you aren't doing your bookkeeping and marketing at the spa suite, the home office is considered the primary place for the management of your business.      What qualifies as "Principal Place of Business" for the home office deduction?

I have used Turbo Tax since 2010 and filed returns for my son and daughter as they came of taxation age.  With this change, I will NOT be using Turbo Tax for 2026 and going forward unless I find a work around.      I am not a business... just a family.  Very STUPID on your part and I feel betrayed.

I was finishing filing my taxes and on my screen it said I would be charged $89 to file. When I hit confirm I received a charge of $223.60!! When I asked for a refund I was declined, when I called I was told I did something wrong the. I was hung up on….if I did something wrong what is the harm of giving me a refund and having me try again. Is this even legal?!? What horrible customer service. I will never use turbo tax again! So disappointed in the service! There are plenty of better sites that aren not out to scam us.

I entered my 1099-R for my retirement plan. I have an additional 1099-R that is for my RMD. When I enter that one, Turbotax wants to know "If your account was subject to a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), we need to know the amount that was required to be distributed by December 31, 2025 from this account."    This 1099-R IS for that required minimum distribution. Do I enter 0 because it is the required minimum distribution?

Yes, boxes 16, 17, and 18 are all filled in with the information from the 1099-MISC.  On the screen where it asks if this is a Qualified Business Income, I selected "no" as the instructions were as clear as mud and this income didn't seem to fit any of the examples listed. Might that be the problem?

@cibeagle3    If your box 2a is blank or "Undetermined"...you probably need to use the Simplified method _____________ BUT   If your box 2a has a non-zero number in it..(not blank, nor marked as undetermined), and that number is somewhat lower than the box 1 number, due to an after-tax contribution amount that is noted in box 5...then edit that retirement form again, and when you get to the following page (below), answer it as-if the displayed edits were present  (i.e. you needed to answer YES).     Answering YES will use the box 2a $$ amount on your for 1040.  Checking lines 5a and 5b on your form 1040, before and after entering that 1099-R, and the 5b amount should be lower than line 5a.     (But if you answered No, and already entered some $$ in the "General" or "Simplified" calculation area ,you might need to delete your 1099-R first and re-enter it from scratch...not sure of that though)   _________________________________

Go back into TurboTax and confirm the return was filed as Married Filing Jointly, and that your wife’s name and Social Security number are entered exactly as shown on her Social Security card.   You should also log into your IRS online account to verify whether your Form 1040 was received and processed.   If everything looks correct, contact the IRS using the number on your notice to confirm their records. If they still don’t show the return, they may ask you to mail a signed copy to resolve the issue.

Hello,  DianeW777,  I read this conversation since I am having the exact same issue with TT defaulting to my 2025 withholding amounts, which were higher in 2025 than they will be this year. I tried changing them on the forms but it won't update. Turbotax even asked me in the interview what my expected withholding amounts would be, so why wouldn't it use the values I entered? If I followed TT's suggestions, I would significantly underpay my estimates and likely face a fine from the IRS.  Please do request a change on this, since this issue  would apply to a lot of people - like me who retired at the end of 2025!

Option 1 is the definite selection for your 1099-R. My advice is first to clear the cache and cookies, and if necessary to delete the 1099-R and then re-enter it. If you mistakenly checked that it was an IRA, then it may remember that in the background.    You can try the following first to see if it makes a difference. Close your return and do the following: Clear the cookies and cache.   It handles many issues that seem nonsensical on a regular basis with online activity. Watch to be sure you are selecting 'all time' as example.  Do not use selections like 'last hour' for those browsers that give  you options. How to clear your cache Once this is complete open your return and try again.   If you are using TurboTax Desktop, save your return, then at the top select Online, then Check for updates.   Review your 1040 Form Lines 5a (Full amount in box 1 and 5b taxable amount From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.) Select Tax Tools On the drop-down select Tools On the pop-up menu titled “Tools Center”, select View Tax Summary  On the left sidebar, select Preview my 1040  For TurboTax Desktop, change to 'Forms' and review the forms                          If you see the correct entries you are ready to complete the return. If not, use the delete form instruction next, then re-enter your 1099-R.   Use the link below for your version of TurboTax to delete a form.
