You should have received a 1099-R from PA for your retirement.  You will enter this in the federal section under retirement income.  To do this select the following: Federal  Income Retirement Plans and Social security IRA, 401k, Pension Plan Withdrawals, (1099-R) continue through the steps to enter your 1099R Then if this is an eligible plan in PA (such as your pension after reaching retirement age), as you walk through the PA questions you will need to look for the spot that asks about your plan and if it applies select "I'm eligible: Plans eligible"  This will remove it from PA taxable income.  As PA does not tax certain eligible retirement benefits.    If you are not eligible and the plan is not eligible, then you would select the appropriate answer that applies to your situation.

Why is Turbo Tax making me enter each category as a new investment from my 1099B for the same payor.  Thus it is forcing me to re-enter the payor information each time.  For example  When I finished entering the info for "short term - covered securities" and hit continue TT took me back out to the page and I had to chose "add investments" including the payer info all over again, in order to enter my next category of "long-term - covered security".   Last year, I was able to enter all of my schedule be categories for a single payor on the same page. I cannot download this info and manually enter.   What am I missing.

The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 03/04/2026   An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return. Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS. The IRS instructions say to leave the 1099-S off your return, file by mail, and attach a copy of the 1099-S and a letter of explanation.  But this means you can't e-file.   To e-file, you would have to either (a) leave the 1099-S off, and wait for the IRS to probably send you a letter, or (b) add the 1099-S and report the value and selling price the same so it nets out to zero (but this might still lead to a letter).    Whatever letter of explanation you eventually send, should explain the circumstances and include your father's name and address, because the IRS is going to want to see the full income on his return instead of half.

Form 8995 is generated automatically in TurboTax upon entering qualified business income, such as Schedule C, E, or K-1, rather than being filled out directly. Users can verify that the form was generated by accessing "Forms" (Desktop) or "Tax Tools" > "Tools" > "View Tax Summary" (Online).    Check your entries for the K-1 and any other business schedules to confirm that your answers to the questions did not include anything that would exclude you from the Qualified Business Income Deduction. The entries for the business forms have follow-up questions that help determine whether the QBI Deduction applies.   Some other users have found that clicking the QuickZoom at the top of the QBI Deduction Summary worksheet for Form 8995 caused the form to populate, or that viewing the form in Forms Mode caused it to populate. The information on the actual form may explain why it's not included.    You can use Form 8995 if your 2025 total taxable income (before the qualified business income deduction) is less than $197,300 ($394,600 for joint filers) and you're not a patron of an agricultural or horticultural cooperative. Otherwise, you’ll use the longer Form 8995-A.    See this tax tips article for more information about Form 8995.   @user17720403316

Good morning! My wife's grandmother passed away and the trust sold some farmland that she owned. We are 1 of 10 recipients receiving a small portion of that sale through 4 payments a year from an escrow company from the man who purchased the land. My wife received a 1099-S but I don't know how I report this on our return. Is this considered an installment sale? I don't know the value of the land when it sold or anything like that and don't quite know where to go from here. The only tax documentation that we received was the 1099-S.   Thanks!

Maybe, it depends on a couple things. Can you tell me how old your daughter was on Dec 31, 2025?  She only has to attend school for part of at least 5 months during the year so if she had classes from May 30-Sept 1, that counts as 5 months and makes her a full-time student.  Did she get a 1098-T from the school and does she have tuition paid in box 1 that is more than any scholarships or grants listed in box 5? And finally, is your income on your return over $180,000?   Once I have that information, I can advise you better.

When my mom passed away, we reworked my parents deed to have me on for right of survivorship to make any transfer easier later down the road when dad passes. He sold the house and moved, and as appropriate kept the proceeds himself. Since I am on deed, the lawyers sent me a 1099-s for half of the proceeds, which I received 0. I cannot figure out how to account for the 1099-s since my "half" is actually his whole.

The instruction to write NRA in the space for the SSN is an older instruction.  With the re-design of form 1040, the current instruction is to write "NRA" in the space for the spouse's name, and leave the spouse's SSN spot blank.         The IRS does allow e-filing in this situation but Turbotax might not be programmed to allow it, I haven't tested this year.

Thank you for respond. Does this mean: 1.  To amend my 2024 return I would have to wait until after the taxes are filed for 2025? I am using desktop application so the clearing of the cookies/cache does not apply. 2. By the same token, should we not be able to file Amendment for 2022 Tax return? I am not able to do the same on the desktop versionof the software.

I’m working on a trust tax return. Trust is irrevocable for education purposes. There are 11 beneficiaries under the same trust. I’m confused about the way TT allocates taxable income to the beneficiaries who got distributions. After much googling, ChatGPTing and Copiloting it seems the advice is to input the total distribution amounts in the Distribution screen, however that leads to almost the entire trust taxable income amount being allocated to a couple beneficiaries. Since there are 11 beneficiaries you can imagine that 2 beneficiaries with distributions will get huge a huge personal tax bill. After further research this allocation also seems to contradict Separate Share Rule (section 663(c)). Could anybody explain to me how do I fix it in TT? The only plausible way I came up with so far is to input only distributed taxable share of income in the TT distribution allocation screen, not the entire amount. Will I be at risk from fiduciary liability prospective? Will trust beneficiaries have problems with IRS to defend the source of the money they received if ever audited?
