Hello. I have the same error message with the "0" on the form, but I can't find "Other Common Business Expenses" on the return in "Business Expenses." Searching for that term doesn't get me a result, nor does going through the "walk me through" process. Any advice on how to find the Energy Efficient Buildings category? Thanks.

How to Access prior year online returns https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/00/27010 If you can't get the side menus to open up to access the prior year..... You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2025 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2025. I had to go though about 12 screens. If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. So you need to make and keep your own backups. Or request a transcript from the IRS https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript Or get a copy of your return using form 4506 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

I found I could go to 'Forms' and just delete the worksheet. Then go back to 'step-by-step' and run the error check again. Poof - no errors.

I had the same problem - took it all the way up to the Resolution Center, but finally found that if you have linked accounts in the list ML shows that comes prepopulated with all accounts, it doesn't work. Uncheck the Bank of America accounts and do them in a separate import choosing Bank of America. No way was I typing all my husband's brokerage stuff. I would have been here a week...

I completed a backdoor Roth IRA and am trying to report it accurately on my taxes. I followed all of the steps according to this page https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/retirement-benefits/enter-backdoor-roth-ira-conversion/L7gGPjKVY_US_en_US and checked that 1040 line 4a correctly has the contribution amount and line 4b has only the earnings amount between traditional IRA contribution and conversion to Roth IRA. In forms mode, I noticed that form 8606 generates an explanation form that reads Explanation of: "recharacaterization explanation". However, I believe that this is incorrect because a backdoor Roth IRA conversion is a conversion not a recharacterization. How to I remove the "recharacterization" language? This is not an editable field. I can freetext underneath to add that this is a conversion not a recharacterization. Thank you!!

Let's verify you qualify and entered correctly in the program:
Qualifications:
Massachusetts Child and Family Tax Credit states: When filing your Form 1 or Form 1-NR/PY return, you may be eligible to claim the child and family credit if your household has any of the following individuals at the end of the tax year
A dependent child under age 13;
A disabled dependent or spouse; and/or
A dependent age 65 or over. The dependent cannot be you or your spouse at the end of the tax year.
Married taxpayers filing separate returns do not qualify for this credit.
Program entry:
Open your return to Massachusetts
edit
Continue through the interview until you reach the screen titled "Take a look at Massachusetts credits" or "You and Your Family."
Look specifically for the "Child and Family Tax Credit" or "Dependent Information" section.
The reason it often says you are "eligible" but doesn't add it is a missing "confirmation" in the state interview. Look for these specific screens:
"Qualifying Dependents": TurboTax will show a list of your dependents imported from the Federal section. You must explicitly check the box next to each name to "claim" them for the Massachusetts credit.
"Physical or Mental Disability": If your dependent is over age 13, you must check a box indicating they have a disability or are a senior (65+) to trigger the credit. If they are under 13, the age is usually pulled automatically, but you still have to confirm they lived with you.

@mexicansra45 if the note hasn't matured yet the coupon interest should be on 1099-INT either from Treasury Direct or your brokerage wherever you hold it. If you bought the Note on the secondary market you may need to adjust for accrued interest that is not taxable to you, that is done under "uncommon situations" after the 1099-INT entry boxes and you may need to split up the 1099 if you have multiple income boxes. When the note matures it would also be reported on 1099-B and if you bought the note at a discount then you may have Accrued Market Discount (AMD) in Box 1f which gets reported as ordinary income, but this is entirely separate income to the coupon interest reported on 1099-INT.

Thank you Amy, I took a look, but I dont see either "operating loss" or "loss carryover" on the NYS tax summary preview. Is this a concern? The NYS questionnaire didnt ask me anything about business income. I allocated 0 of my job income as none of that was related to NYS.

It's not an error in the form. The new tax law is very clear that this is how the phaseout has to be calculated. The law specifically says that the reduction applies to the $6,000 for each taxpayer.
The IRS has to follow the law as it is written. If you think the law should be different, you should write to your congressional representative.

The QCD distribution is "I transferred all or part of this money directly to charity". It can also satisfy your RMD.
The other distribution was presumably not donated to charity...but it can also be applied to the RMD, if you did not roll it over somewhere (but kept it and spent it).
If these were two different distributions, even from the same source, there should not be a problem with the entries.
