So, OK counties are only available in both versions of the software? Online and Desktop? Okay. Thanks for checking that. I do have an email to the OK tax people, just to be sure.

The only credit available to grad students is the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC). It is a non refundable credit. That is, it can only be used to offset an actual tax liability (no refund).
Grad students are generally not eligible for the more generous American Opportunity Credit, except in the year they receive their BS/BA.
Only tuition and fees are eligible expenses for the LLC. Books and computers and room & board do not count.

If you don't see the option, you may need to wait until the form is officially released in the software.
Probably the IRS hasn't accepted your return yet, so you'll have to wait until the IRS accepts your return.
It's best to wait until your original return is accepted and processed before filling, as doing so earlier may cause potential issues.

Since your form has taxes withheld, but no income to offset those, it will need to be entered a different way to clear the error. Go ahead and remove the 1099-G from your return and then enter the amount of taxes on the 1099-G following these steps:
Go to the Deductions and Credits section in TurboTax in the Personal section.
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid, then select Other Income Taxes - by clicking Start to the right of it
Scroll down to the Other Income Taxes Paid in 2025 section and select Start for Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099
Select Yes for "Do you have any tax withholding you haven't entered yet?"
Enter the Federal withholdings in its box then select Massachusetts for state withholdings and enter the amount of MA withholdings from the 1099-G. Select Continue.
The information from the 1099-G is already in the hands of both the IRS and Massachusetts, so they will be able to match it up with the information on your return. You will also be able to file your Federal Return electronically now, but the Massachusetts return will end up needing to be filed by mail. TurboTax will provide you with directions on how to go about sending your state return by mail when you go to check out.

However, I can't figure out how to get TT to fill out Form DR-0158-I. I'd appreciate your help in pointing me in the right direction. Thanks!

Did you e-file your state tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...

I just encountered this bug. Fortunately for me, I have another credit card with an expiration month below 09. Seems like an easy bug to fix. I've been a Windows developer for many years, and I'd have it fixed in minutes. Heck, I bet AI could fix it in less time that it takes me to type this message. Instead, here we are many months later, right in the middle of tax season, with no fix forthcoming. PS - to Catina: Boo on you for proffering the same useless solution for this over and over in various posts.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful as Turbo Tax is a great program and well worth the cost, your answer given does not cover the statement I previously made. The program as previously stated asked me if this was the state tax return I wanted my free state efiling and would not show me the state info until I answered, then charged me anyway the $25.00 filing fee so there really is no free state fee as advertised with this software. You note that there is also a $25.00 fee in this particular case for preparing the state tax? Is that not what the purchase fee is when I purchased the software for federal and state taxes, and there is no language at that time within the program saying there is a "Preparing fee". May I ask if you could have your IT department download the software to see what I am saying, I suspect this was an auto-generated answer from you. Thank you.

Thank you Amy. Very helpful. How can I see how TurboTax desktop arrived at the number entered on Sched E line22? This should be a combination of previous years' "passive" losses and any loss on the sale, right? Is there a worksheet that supports this number? Thanks again for your help! mark

I am having the same problem, but if I click on VIEW and then click on FORMS, and then click on Form 1040, it shows our itemized deductions were used rather than the standard deduction. The program has a major bug and I am pissed off. Intuit needs to guide us about what to do. I don't dare send in a tax return that is different from what the program is saying is on that return.

I'm sorry if I have posted this question before, I can not find it. My son and his girlfriend live together and have one child. My son earns the higher amount of wages therefore contributes the most to the upkeep of the home and to the support of his child, however they are not married and do not file their taxes jointly. What is the correct way to file their taxes if they wish for his girlfriend to claim the child to be eligible for the earned income credit and child tax credit? Can my son list his child as a dependent and claim head of household? or Does he have to leave the child off of his tax forms all together and file single? The program interview and my research are contradictory in that the interview will allow me to include the child on both tax forms.
