I've verified that the Turbotax interview will only take you to the screen with additional educational input, e.g., room and board, if the taxpayer received some 1099-Q distribution, where that be on the parents return or the students return.  Is that the expected and correct behavior.    In my case, the student taxpayer was the beneficiary of a 529 distribution, but not the recipient, so the additional expenses interview questions did not appear.  I still can edit the People Wks and add room and board on the students return, but why not allow it even if the student taxpayer doesn't get a 1099-Q distribution.

First I signed an agreement that if I want the refund to within 5 days after filing it will happen now a month nothing. Waited for the normal time of 21 st days still nothing only keeping promises it’s in progress. Am even worried of the signed time agreement still my money to be deducted of which you guys failed the agreement yourself. Now what is the problem with resolving the issue of delayed tax refunds to my account?

I have self-employment income that exceeds the allowable maximum IRA contribution.  Neither spouse nor I are covered by a retirement plan.    In years past with Turbotax, under same situation, IRA contributions were allowed and reduced my taxable contributions.  This year when I enter the contributions, Turbotax askes me all kind of questions about it, but does NOT ask me whether I or my spouse are covered by a retirement plan at work.  It just says my contributions are not tax deductable.  Which according to the IRS, since I have self-employment income to cover it, and neither of us are covered by a retirement plan, it should be deductable.  I just cannot find the switch to tell Turbotax that we are not covered by a retirement plan at work, since neither of us "work".  Thank you.

Perhaps. Keep in mind the tax return, both state and federal, need accuracy. There are situations where it's necessary to make entries that provide the correct results due to the many differences between various state returns and the federal return.  You can confidently make the changes provided by our tax expert @AmyC.

I’m disappointed in your online process this year.  It didn’t seem user friendly like in the past.  The process didn’t flow easily through all options allowing entries to cover all situations.  I don’t want to go back and forth to ensure I find everything.  Hopefully your system will go more smoothly next year or I will have to try another system.
Can you tell me where is that option is located within TurboTax?    I was able to put in my R&B expense by going to Forms - ESA_OTP_WKS

You can input the 1099-R manually.  Not all banks make uploading available.    Here is how to do this in TurboTax Online:   Navigate to Federal > Wages & Income > Wages & Income Summary > IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) Add/Edit Add a 1099-R or say "Yes" you got a 1099-R in 2025 Select "Enter a different way" On the next screen, it asks "How would you like to upload your 1099-R?" Select "Type it in myself" Next it asks "Who gave you a 1099-R?", you can click "Financial institution or other provider" and select continue Now, you can input your 1099-R provider's info (Truist Bank), and continue through the rest of the interview

I tried again this morning (2/28/26) to deselect the 50/100 Special Depreciation Allowance box on Schedule E, and the issue has not gone away.  It still won't hold the selection and keeps asking me to fix the error repeatedly.  This one item is preventing me from filing my taxes electronically, and I have spent more hours trying to resolve this one issue than I did preparing my entire tax return.  This is quite frustrating.

"5 days early" means you are supposed to receive your federal refund from one to five days sooner than the refund date shown on the IRS refund site.   If it does not meet that "at least one day sooner" date, they are supposed to refund the $35 fee.   You have to pay attention to the date on the IRS refund site. You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds

This does work but I don't like that I am entering information in my tax return that is not technically correct.  I didn't not have any state taxes paid in 2025 for an earlier year.  If I get audited but the IRS, for example, I guess I will defend what I did by stating that this is the only way for me to enter the tax credits as state taxes paid using Turbotax.   Turbotax needs to be updated to be able to include state tax credits as income taxes paid that year that doesn't move to the state as current year tax withholding.   Ken
