The solution doesn't work for me. I tried checking the  Federal Information box, the address appeared. However, when I ran the smart check again, the address was blank again and the form was flagged for error.  The software keeps asking me for the address info over and over and doesn't enter it.  No matter whether the FI box is checked or not, the address info disappears and the smart check flags the error. I am using the Costco version of TurboTax Deluxe Desktop.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

Unfortunately, this does not work. Yes, the step-by-step asks for total basis (and actually, prefills it from last year if nothing has changed). And, yes, it does ask for Total Value of ALL your IRAs, BUT it will not let me enter a number - the field seems to be frozen. The only fix I can figure out is to go into the forms and enter the numbers directly into the form 8606. This does not give me a lot of confidence that everything is being done correctly - and not why I bought Turbotax.  TurboTax has totally butchered the entry of Traditional IRA distributions when you have multiple accounts, QCDs, rollover to Roth, and if you take your total RMD out of only one account.  I might continue using TurboTax since I have used it for years, but for a new user looking for good software, I would not recommend TurboTax.

Thanks, but Turbotax did not ask if I wanted to create a new copy. It just took me to the one I already filled out.  In addition, removing the links doesn't seem to create a work-a-around. Form 8881 Credit for Auto-Enrollment Smart Worksheet only permits one $500 credit. Using override to total $1000 for each of 2 auto-enrollment plans (e.g. husband's separate from wife's) generates an error. Any other ideas?

I wish I COULD post a screenshot. When I finished my taxes Saturday evening, I was offered the chance for a $29 review before filing, but I would have needed about 50 minutes for either a phone call or online chat and I didn't want to stay up that long.  So I deducted the $29 from the invoice I paid, thinking I could add the $29 later. I haven't been able to find a way to do that in the subsequent couple of days.

I got a message that I need to upgrade to Premier to import a 1099-B.  When I get to the online form to enter my credit card information, the dropdown box with credit card expiration months refuses to accept values displayed in the box of 09 or larger and I have a card that expires in September so I can't continue.

The assets can be entered into your rental property by using the steps below. This will be a simple asset selection for you to arrive at the correct depreciation method and expense.  From the day it is placed in service you should consider it used 100% for business for days it is advertised and available for rent, even if it wasn't rented yet.   When you are signed into your tax return follow the steps below in TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop.  Search (upper right) > Type rentals > Click the Jump to... link Edit next to your rental property Click on Assets > Add an expense or asset Make a selection based on the asset you are entering: Select an Asset Category Select 'Rental Real Estate Property' (the home itself- be prepared to enter an amount for the land portion if applicable Under 'How would you further describe this?' select Residential real estate Select 'Tools, machines, furniture - Under 'How would you further describe this?' select Rental property furnishings Select 'Tech' - if applicable, etc Describe your asset, enter the cost and date acquired > Continue > Select 'I purchased this asset' Yes, always used 100% business > Continue to follow the screens Note: A real estate tax assessment can be used to determine the building value vs the land value.   @Artiec45

It is possible that you don't have enough tax to absorb the credit. If so, you would not get a credit in the current year but you could carry it over to next year. To check on this, you can look on your Form 1040, and subtract line19 from line 18. Your energy credit could not be more than that amount in the current year.   To view your form 1040 and schedule 1 to 3:   Choose Tax Tools from your left menu bar in TurboTax Online while working in your program Choose Tools Choose View Tax Summary See the Preview my 1040 option in the left menu bar and click on it Choose the Back option in the left menu bar when you are done

Hello,   Thank you for your response.     I should have been clearer with my question.     This is for an amended return as the 1099 misc was received late the income is reported in box 6; as soon as I complete for box six, the schedule c is forced.  No further information is asked (no option to "just say no") this income was for participation in a clinical trial, not self employment   best regards, patricia
I checked and in the Tax summary, there was nothing in it. I also attempted to locate a 1040 and there was no 1040 on my tax return stuff. Don't want an upgrade that isn't necessary.

I filed MFS last year because of my wife's student loans.    I'm trying to amend last year's return to change my deduction from standard to itemized since my wife didn't file and I had a bigger itemized deduction but not sure how to correctly fill out section 11.   Would I check "Federal change accepted on" and use the date I check the box for the date for section 11 A? Do I click yes for box C saying I filed a federal form 1040X or Form 1045? I used "changing from standard deduction to itemized" for box D.  Is the for TurboTax gives me a 1040X or 1045 that I mail in? This is my first time amending a return and want to make sure I'm doing it right.

If TurboTax has not correctly subtracted the enhanced senior deduction on your Form 1040-X, and you do not have the TurboTax Desktop program to override the value using Forms Mode, you can try to re-enter your information to trigger a recalculation.  Also, look at your Tax Summary by clicking on Tax Tools, then Tools in the left panel of your TurboTax screen and selecting View Tax Summary, to make sure it was not applied properly.   The Enhanced Senior  Deduction is a  nonrefundable tax deduction that reduces your taxable income but does not provide a refund for amounts that exceed your tax liability. If you have no tax liability as a result of your amended return, you would not get the credit.   Make sure your date of birth is correct in TurboTax. You are not eligible for the deduction if you filed married filing separate.   The deduction is phased out if your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) is over $75,000 if you filed as single or head of household and  $150,000 if married filing jointly.   You can amend a return in the TurboTax desktop software that was originally filed in TurboTax Online. But you would have to download the .tax file from your online account and load it into the desktop program.   Click here for How do I switch from TurboTax Online to TurboTax Desktop? Please return to Community if you have any additional information or questions and we would be happy to help.
