What was the solution for 2024?  I have the same problem for my 2025 return.  I'm a full time MA resident but TT is adding Form 1 NR/PY to my return.  I've spoken to the MA DOR and they say it is a problem with TT.   I've already spent over 7 hours on the phone with 5 different "specialists" and no one knows how to solve it

I just started having the same problem with TT 2025 Premier

Thanks, Dave My problem was resolved but the TurboTax issue is not. It should be clear to any novice using Turbotax what is happening, not by potentially eliminating (rational) alternatives. When answering No to both Roth questions and popping out of the process back to the income list leaves one hanging.  I didn't realize there was only one alternative because I had looked up "G" and this description said it was used for a full payout or a rollover. So, it appeared to me there was more than one more choice.  In any case, clarity should be the rule when dealing with software/user processes, even if redundent.

If you go back through the interview for each rental property and, when asked, indicate that your income might exceed $197,300 (or $394,600 if married filing a joint return), then answer "No" to the specified services questions, you will again be given the option to combine the rental into another or indicate that the "business" is independent of any other activities.   If this doesn't resolve the error, follow these steps to “un-aggregate” them in TurboTax Online:  Go to Delete a Form: In the left menu, select the dropdown arrow next to Tax Tools and then under that select Tools. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form. Find the QBI Component form for the aggregated businesses.  Delete that QBI Component sheet. Now, go to Review and start the review routine. You will have an error for each business that no longer has a QBI Component form.  For each of those businesses, you will see the “primary” form for that business (Schedule C, Schedule E, K-1). It will be highlighted for Question A in the Qualified Business Income Deduction Smart Worksheet. Double click in the highlighted Question A box, and you will get a pop-up asking you to link to a QBI component worksheet.  Create a new copy for that business (e.g., give it the name of that business). Continue until you have created a separate QBI component worksheet for each business that you do not want to aggregate.

Q, On a 1098-T can I deduct $80,000 to pay my grandson's college tuition? A. No.   Only the person claiming the student's exemption (dependency) can claim the education credit.  There is no deduction, just a credit.   But, whomever does claim him, whether it be the parent or the student himself, they may count the tuition and expenses, you paid, in claiming the credit for themselves.   Although the general rule, in taxes, is that you must be the one making the payment, to get the deduction or credit, there is an exception for education.   Here's a post on the five main points on the  1098-T: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/college-education/discussion/re-what-do-i-do-with-form-1098t/01/3760212#M63114

I filed my 2025 Federal taxes and got a refund,  I forgot one 1099-Div.  When I go through Turbo Tax to amend the return it now shows I owe 986.  But this does not take into account the $1359 refund I already received.  Where do I enter that 1359 refund on the amended 1040-SR?

To clarify, which glitch are you referring to?

No. You can't type into the state forms in the online version. You must use the interview path to get the correct calculation.   Go to Federal > Wages & Income. Find your 1099-DIV from the money market fund and click Edit/Review. Navigate to the "Uncommon Situations" Screen: Continue past the main box-entry screen. You will reach a screen titled "Tell us if any of these uncommon situations apply to you." Check the box: "A portion of these dividends is U.S. Government interest."Enter the Dollar Amount: On the next screen, enter the specific dollar amount derived from U.S. obligations (e.g., Treasury Bills, Notes, or Bonds). This information is usually found in a "Supplemental Information" or "Tax Letter" from your brokerage (like Vanguard, Fidelity, or Schwab). Confirm the State Update: Once you finish the Federal section, go back to the State tab and run through the Pennsylvania interview. TurboTax will now automatically add that amount to Line 3 of PA Schedule B. This will subtract it from your PA-taxable income.

Do you see an embedded form under the Smart Check message? If so, you can enter a zero for all boxes that are needed to resolve this error. Note that there may be several messages that look alike, so keep entering zeroes until you reach the end of the Smart Check review.   If you have a passive loss to enter, use that amount instead of zero.

Yes, you can upload another W-2 into your TurboTax Online return. To get started, open and continue your return, then visit the Wages & Income section and look for W-2.   To upload a PDF of your W-2, select Upload and choose the file from your computer. TurboTax will extract and populate the information directly from your form.   If you can’t import your W-2 information, you can type it in by hand or use the TurboTax mobile app and your smartphone to snap a photo of your W-2. In some cases, manually entering a W-2 saves time and effort.   For more info, see How do I import my W-2 in TurboTax Online?
