If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.   To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings: Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL. Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu. Toggle the switch to ON. Refresh the page and attempt your import again. What do I do when my data isn't imported into TurboTax Desktop even though it says successful import in my browser? If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play: Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements. Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back. Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser. Helpful TurboTax Articles: What if I can't import my 1099? How can I fix my 1099 import issue? How do I import my 1099s? Are you sure that TurboTax isn't asking if box 2b Taxable amount not determined is marked.  For a distribution from an inherited traditional IRA, box 2b Taxable amount not determined should be marked, box 7 should have code 4 and the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box should be marked.  If neither box 2b Taxable amount not determined nor the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box is not marked, the distribution is not from any type of traditional IRA but is instead a distribution from an employer plan like a 401(k).   If the distribution is from an IRA, the marking (or not) of box 2b Total distribution is irrelevant.  It has no bearing on how the IRA distribution is taxed.

I'm not quite sure what you are referring to, but the IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud. Make sure you take into account the information below.   You can find your 2024 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) by: Looking at line 11 on page 1 of your 2024 Form 1040 Requesting a transcript of your 2024 tax return from the IRS. You can request your transcript online at the following link: Get Transcript Please click on this TurboTax article for more information.    Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number.  If you:  Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0. Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A). Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less. Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2024 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter  0  for one of you).   Time-saving Tip: If what you entered is correct and you continue to get a reject, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.    This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.
Thank you!  In looking at it again, I was able to click on <Select> in the drop-down in order to leave Box 15 blank.  Duh!  My mistake, maybe someone here can have an aha! moment too!

Except "inherited" is NOT being recognized when TurboTax populates the 8283. I selected inherited in the TT question screen and Average Share Price for the method. The 8283 is showing that the stock was acquired by "purchase" and the method used to determine FMV is "Comparative sales". Both of these are incorrect and contradict the answers I gave to the interview questions. (Last year this was an even bigger mess for inherited stocks, but it's still very annoying that TT can't get this right.). All the comments from a few weeks ago say this is going to be fixed, but I see no evidence of that as of 3/2 (I did pick up all the updates today when I logged in).

We would like to take a look at this just to verify if the program is indeed using AGI and not MAGI to compute the upper limit. To investigate, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. All we see are numbers in your return.   TurboTax Online:   Sign into your online account. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.” This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.   TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:   Open your return. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” * This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us. Please provide the Token Number  (including the dash) that was generated in the response.
Can you clarify what type of income it is asking this for?  @anthony3180

The update for this went out on February 26th right on schedule.  So we need to make certain that your software is updated.  There are a couple things to try.   First, please re-start your computer if you haven't done so in the last week.   Second, clear your cache.  Here's how to do that.   Third, delete your cookies.  Here's how to do that.   Taking care of those things will let the system know that you don't have any instances of TurboTax still running on your computer and allow the software to update so that you can file.

The updates are there - I can now enter RB in the conversation of the desktop.  However, one thing that I noted on both of my college students and was still causing issues was that TT is still on the Student Info worksheet is filling in $10000  in line 18 of part VI "used for credit..." even though I am not trying to use AOC / LLC.  That then removes 10K of "expenses" and starts making 1099Q money unqualified.   When I zeroed that out,  everything then allocates correctly.   Really interested if AmyC or HalAI have and comments on this.   If you are seeing that you are having 529 money be allocated as taxable when it really should not, I'd first check the student info section VI line 18 and see if you have 10K in that line.  Just the left most box.  TT will carry it over automatically to the other line18 entries as needed.

Sorry for your health issues, but unclear on your tax question.    What are you trying to do with that on your tax return?    The only question to answer on your tax return about health insurance is whether you have a 1095A for marketplace health insurance--aka "Obamacare" or Affordable Care Act....or healthcare.gov.    If you did not have that kind of health insurance you say NO to the question about 1095A and just move on.   Did you have Medicare---or Medicaid?     Neither of these is entered on a tax return.     MEDICAID AND MEDICARE   Though the programs are similar, Medicare and Medicaid are not the same thing and the terms are not interchangeable. Medicare is a health insurance program managed by the U.S. federal government that typically covers healthcare costs related to hospital stays, doctor’s appointments, hospice, and more, for individuals who are 65 or older or have been diagnosed with certain disabilities. Medicaid is a health insurance program managed jointly by the U.S. federal government and individual state governments. It is reserved exclusively for those with special cases, such as low income individuals, pregnant women, and those with certain disabilities.
