@TopShelfTax    You can change the amount you want (or didn't want TT) to allocate to the ed credit, including changing it to 0. Check the student information worksheet. You can change it there (line 17). Make the change in the first column on the left.   The 1099-Q is  only an informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your (or your student's) tax return. The interview is complicated and it's easy to make mistakes. Avoid it if you can.  You can just not report the 1099-Q, at all, if your student-beneficiary has sufficient educational expenses, including room & board (even if he lives at home) to cover the distribution. When the box 1 amount on form 1099-Q is fully covered by expenses, TurboTax will enter nothing about the 1099-Q on the actual tax forms. But, it will prepare a 1099-Q worksheet for your records (you don’t need it). You would still have to do the math to see if there were enough expenses left over for you to claim the tuition credit. You also cannot count expenses that were paid by tax free scholarships. References: On form 1099-Q, instructions to the recipient reads: "Nontaxable distributions from CESAs and QTPs are not required to be reported on your income tax return. You must determine the taxability of any distribution."  IRS Pub 970 states: “Generally, distributions are tax free if they aren't more than the beneficiary's AQEE for the year. Don't report tax-free distributions (including qualifying rollovers) on your tax return”. "IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education states: If the entire 1099-Q went to qualified expenses, room and board, tuition, etc; then, you do not need to enter the form."
Thank You.  I have noticed several other 1099-R have left it blank as well.
Many pages showed but I found what I wanted on the last page (15th).  Thanks.

Since you were working as an independent contractor in 2025, you are considered a sole proprietor for tax purposes, even if you hadn't "officially" registered the business name yet. For a recruiter (or most service-based contractors), the income reported on a T4A slip belongs in one specific spot: You should enter your gross earnings in Box 048 (Fees for services). This box is specifically designed for "Fees for professional or other services," which covers independent contracting, consulting, and recruitment fees.   Because you are an independent contractor, simply entering the T4A is only the first half of the story. Here is what happens next in TurboTax: The T2125 Form: When you enter an amount in Box 048, TurboTax will automatically trigger the T2125 (Statement of Business or Professional Activities). This is where you report your business income and, more importantly, your expenses.   Business Registration: Because you did not register the company until 2026, for your 2025 return, you should use your own legal name as the business name and your home address as the business address.   If you worked as a contractor but did not receive a T4A slip from your client (which is common if the amount was small or the client's accounting was sloppy), you are still legally required to report your earnings. In that case, you would skip the T4A section and enter the income directly into the T2125 "Professional Income" section under "Gross sales, commissions, or fees."   Am I self-employed and how does that affect me at tax time?   Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Thanks so much for your reply!  It looks like most of your message was removed.  Fortunately, your full message came through in my email notification (that you had replied to me), so I could see your full message with your research and steps. Thank you so very much for sharing all that!  I will absolutely be following those steps.   We've been a good duo in this effort : )   Hopefully this will get resolved soon, and I'll be able to circle back to you saying it's been fixed.  But I'm absolutely with you about next year!

Thank you for your help.  After a software update from Turbotax today, it created the explanation statement form with the information I typed on it.  I printed the form to see how it looked, and the explanation is unreadable.  It is all compressed onto one line and looks like gibberish.  The IRS won't be able to read this.  Is this how it is supposed to look?    Thank you for any insight.   @MarilynG1

from 1065 instructions for 2025 line 19 Don’t include amounts paid during the tax year for insurance that constitutes medical care for a partner, a partner’s spouse, a partner’s dependents, or a partner’s children under age 27 who aren’t dependents. Instead, include these amounts on line 10 as guaranteed payments on the applicable line of Schedule K, line 4, and the applicable line of box 4 of Schedule K-1, of each partner on whose behalf the amounts were paid. Also report these amounts on Schedule K, line 13e, and in box 13 of Schedule K-1, using code M, of each partner on whose behalf the amounts were paid

Thank you for the response. I have 2 single member LLCs on the form. One of the two LLCs has been established for quite some time. The other one was created in 2025 with the newly generated entity numbers starting with B. Turbo Tax specifically asks for numbers and needs to be updated to accommodate the new CA entity numbers containing the letter B. I have been filing with Turbo Tax for years and haven't had issues with the other LLC.  SOS Biz file website excerpt below: Newly registered Corporations, Limited Liability Companies (LLC), and Limited Partnerships (LP) will now utilize a 12-character ID that starts with the letter “B”. Entities, with a preestablished entity number, will continue to use the same number even when the 12-character ID is implemented. In any case, the invalid SOS # error is the only issue and I doubt it will be fixed before the taxes are due. I have seen some other threads in the community with a similar issue and no solid solution. Question 1: Do I print page 1, 2 and 3 of form 568 and mail it to the state? I don't see a voucher for this form.  Question 2: How do I file the rest of it? Is Turbo Tax going to let me efile the rest after printing the form 568 or do I need to remove it somehow?   Thanks again for your help.

I updated my TT 2025, clicked on "Amend a Filed Return" for my federal return. I already know it's been accepted by the IRS since last week. According to the support page, when you do that the tax refund amount is supposed to go to $0, but mine doesn't. After I added a couple of extra 1099 forms, the tax owed updated as expected but on top of the previous owed amount*. Also the forms view doesn't show the 1040-X. I think this isn't working yet. * I e-Filed with payment to IRS on 4/1/26, not immediately.

Hello, When I try to log in, the system asks me to verify via OTP sent to my phone number. However, I do not receive the SMS message. I also requested a voice call to receive the OTP, but I did not receive any call either. It may be due to issues with my telecom service. I then skipped the two-step verification process, and the system redirected me to a page saying “Not a valid account.” Since then, every time I log in, I am redirected to that same page and I can no longer access quickemployerforms.intuit.com/home. Could you please help me resolve this issue and restore access to my account? Thank you for your assistance.

My Turbo Tax is the version I had emailed to me and downloaded on my computer.  I don't see Tax Tools then Tools then delete a form.  I have tried deleting the forms then following the instructions to close browser, sign back in to no avail.  I do have the QMID entered.
Most likely this is IRD (income in respect of a decedent).   You can report it on your return if you received the income. If the estate received it, report it on Form 1041.
I tried all of what ddkojwimi suggested  but WI return rejected
I got the following message "Bank account numbers do not match", but they do match....  How can this be fixed?
The app updated today and I was able to save my explanation.  Thank you for your continued help and kindness and thank your TurboTax contact Ann

If you did a direct rollover from a 401(k) to an IRA, the 1099-R box 7 code will either be G (for traditional 401(k) to traditional IRA) or H (for Roth 401(k) to Roth IRA).  If this is the case for your 1099-R, there should be a 0 or blank entry for box 2a.  This would make it a non-taxable direct rollover.   Once you finish entering the 1099-R details in TurboTax, you'll get asked if you moved the money from a 401(k) to a Roth 401(k) - if this is clicked yes, the distribution will be taxable as a Roth conversion.  If you didn't do that, be sure that you click No I didn't.   The next screen on Where is your distribution from? is to determine how it is handled for NJ purposes - this should be checked as None of the above because this is a rollover and not a distribution out of a retirement account.   You'll get asked if you moved the money to a Roth IRA - if your 1099-R was a traditional 401(k) and you click yes here, that will make the distribution taxable - click No if you moved the money to a traditional IRA.   Following the above steps will not make the 1099-R rollover distribution taxable in New Jersey.
