Thanks.   It means TurboTax is not able to e-file in the case of anyone who is married and qualified to file as HoH without providing the spouse's details despite that the spouse has nothing to do with the return. This matches the conclusion described in my original post. Can other users in this community recommend any other software tools that can deal with such a situation ?     "write Nonresident Alien (or the abbreviation “NRA”) in the space for your spouse’s Social Security number" I am not sure if the above is correct.   @Opus 17 I thought "NRA" was supposed to go on the blank space next to "If you checked the MFS box, enter the name of your spouse."  Any thoughts ? Thanks.
Do you have an amount in box 16 for state distribution?  If not then enter the amount from box 1 in box 16.

Yes, you can deduct subscriptions (software, apps, publications) used for your Schedule C business if they are "ordinary and necessary" for your operations.    In TurboTax, enter these under Business Expenses > Other Common Business Expenses > Other Miscellaneous Expenses. For hybrid (personal/business) use, only deduct the business percentage.   Under current law, Employee Business Expenses are no longer deductible, with rare exceptions.   See this tax tips article for more information about reporting self- employed business deductions.   @Cmclemore95

I finally was able to get this resolved.    I reran the repair on the C++ app, shut off wifi, turned off all anit-virus, connected wifi via my iphone (which has defender running on it, opened TT in admin mode.  It did its search for updates, requested the license number and then fully opened.  This makes me think there is something in my antivirus on my pc that is blocking access.  To check that, I tuned antivirus back on, changed wifi back to my internet provider, and reopened TT is normal (vs admin) mode and while it was slow, it reopened, so I think I am finally ready to get my taxes done.  Thank you for all of the above suggestions which gave me hope that this could be resolved vs having to make the fated call to Intuit.

TurboTax does not update because TT receives no information from the IRS after you file your tax return.   Your source of information is the IRS refund site.   FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown. Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

That number flows from Form 8995 or 8995-A,Form 8995, Qualified Business Income Deduction Simplified Computation. The pass-through deduction lets partners or shareholders in a pass-through business deduct up to 20% of their share of qualified business income from their income. and it reduces your taxable income.   Are you sure that you need to remove it?

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities,  There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals.  Some states process returns quickly and some are very slow.   STATE RETURN Make sure your state return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   To track your state refund:       ttps://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0

This is a new one because I've entered other 1099-Q information before. I think Intuit broke the software. Last I checked, 408.88 + 299.04 = 707.92

Thank you.  However, even though I have deleted my state return and started over, I have never seen and screen asking about Indiana K1s nor any line on the income-deductions, credit or wrap up pages referencing K1s.  Extremely frustrating.   Finally  I forced the software to open Indiana Schedule F and did an override to enter the data.  It's disappointing with what I pay each year for this software that the option to enter this information seems to have disappeared.

Thanks for answering! I have never had this many errors when filing my state return before. And all that to say I’m going to owe zero dollars anyway because it was a loss this year. But I don’t remember manually entering depreciation before. Did I and I just forgot? Do I just manually enter the same amount on my federal return?

No one can see your information.   WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY?  I WANT THE FREE EDITION   The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now.  Thanks to the tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's.  Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition.  Using the standard deduction instead of itemizing does NOT mean you will not need any of those schedules.   If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any extra forms or schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version and if you are watching the screens carefully you are alerted to the upgrade.       TurboTax Online: Important Details about Filing Simple Form 1040 Returns If you have a simple Form 1040 return only (no forms or schedules except as needed to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit or student loan interest), you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic at the listed price. Roughly 37% of taxpayers are eligible. Examples of situations included in a simple Form 1040 return (assuming no added tax complexity): W-2 income Interest, dividends or original issue discounts (1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-OID) that don’t require filing a Schedule B IRS standard deduction Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Child Tax Credit (CTC) Student loan interest deduction Taxable qualified retirement plan distributions   Examples of situations not included in a simple Form 1040 return: Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers) Stock sales (including crypto investments) Income from rental property or property sales Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules        How can I see my TurboTax  fees?  https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k   If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons     (BEFORE you e-file) :   Remove Premium Services Remove MAX Defend & Restore Remove a state Remove PLUS Help & Support Remove Pay With Your Refund     Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site   https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

Does your version look like my screenshot above?  With a top blue banner and the menu items going across the top?  You don't have to log in to the PC Desktop program.  Sounds like you might be in the Online browser version.   The Online version has the tabs going down the left side in a black or grey column.  Did you have to pay again to file the first return?     I see people all the time that have bought the Download Desktop Software but then somehow ending up using the Online version and didn't know it. If that happened to you, you can move your Online file to the Desktop program and continue without paying for Online or needing to reenter your info. If you started in the Online version you can switch to the Desktop program and continue without paying for Online.
