My wife's employer incorrectly applied a tax free scholarship to her income for the year, which means taxes were taken out of it. They realized their mistake and provided a corrected W2, but the only items they updated were boxes 1, 3 & 5. When I filed our 2024 taxes it told me to reduce the social security tax line by the overage and to send in a form 843 for a refund, which is what I did. We recently received a letter response from the IRS stating form 843 isn't correct and we needed to complete an amended return. Everything i've found on the internet and this website states form 843 is needed when social security tax is overpaid by 1 employer. I'm not sure where to go from here since i've submitted the 843 and the IRS is saying we need to do an amended return, but when I do that it says nothing has changed. What do I do at this point? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)     See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -   CURRENT YEAR https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US?uid=lfunevhk     Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return

If you already entered your 2025 information it is too late to transfer a 2024 tax file in to the 2025 return.  You have to do that at the very beginning before you enter anything for 2025.   Sounds like you already entered your  2025 data, so proceed without 2024.    You will be asked for your 2024 AGI in order to e-file 2025---it is on line 11 of your 2024 Form 1040.

Hello! I have entered 1099-R for a qualified plan. The taxes got recalculated, which is correct. When I enter RMD the taxes get added again! When is TurboTax going to release a fix for this issue in 2025 version? ( This problem did not appear to occur in 2024 version).  This forum suggests to enter that the entire amount was an RMD, but there is no such field in the TurboTax 2025.
Part Ⅳ Dependent Information in my California return shows an extra dependent that does not appear in My info. How can I delete it?
@EZTarget Where do you see the Deluxe edition must be upgraded?   This is a screenshot from the 2025 Deluxe desktop edition only showing it being recommended.

I agree with you. I have had the same problem with my filing. Never had to enter this ip pin before in 8 years.  I went to the IRS website and got the 6 digit pin and it still rejects it.  Something is wrong with 2025 premium version.  I paid to e-file both state and federal.  If I can't efile due to your software error, please tell me where to go for my refund. Intuit needs to fix this problem immediately.
I went through putting in my 2025 info, and am almost ready to file and realized the Turbo Tax never asked about my Y2024 info! This is my first year using Turbo Tax.

TurboTax askes me if I have a 1099-Q to file. Once you check yes, it required me to subscribe to deluxe to full out this form. On the website https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/free-edition.jsp#tax-forms is says the 1099-Q is included in the free version. How should I fix this error? Or do I need to file my taxes elsewhere. I called and the phone was no help, requiring me to pay for assistance when this is simply a computer error not a tax question.

If you already e-filed you are stuck with "5 days early" if the return is accepted.  If it rejects you can try to remove that option in the FILE section before you re-file.       "5 days early" means you are supposed to receive your federal refund from one to five days sooner than the refund date shown on the IRS refund site.   If it does not meet that "at least one day sooner" date, they are supposed to refund the $35 fee.   You have to pay attention to the date on the IRS refund site. You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds

If your retirement distribution is a qualified distribution from a Roth IRA, then it would not be taxable and would not be included in your taxable income.  However it would be reported on your Form 1040 line 4a.     If the distribution is from another type of retirement plan, then try reviewing your Form 1099-R inputs to be sure everything is entered accurately.  Also be aware that there are multiple follow-up questions that need to be answered as well.   If you still see that it is not being included in your income, feel free to add more details here such as the type of account and the distribution code in box 7 so that we may try to help you further.
No, Form 7217 is not supported in any edition of the TurboTax software at this time.
