Thank you so much for your response. Would for #6 the year be 2023? Since NYS looked at 2023 year taxes to determine eligibility for the Inflation Relief check?

Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing or the timing when the IRS releases your refund.
The IRS states that most federal tax refunds are issued within 21 days of acceptance, however, some may take longer if they require additional review. Also, by law, the IRS cannot issue EITC or ACTC refunds before mid-February. This applies to your entire refund, not just the portion related to those specific credits.
Here are a few FAQs to help you track your refund: When will I get my federal tax refund? How do I track my state refund? Why does Where's My Refund say "approved" but TurboTax still says "accepted"?
Why do some refunds take longer than others?
What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

You can try the following steps to "fix" the issue that you are having entering Form 1116 (Foreign Tax Credit).
Find the interview screen that is feeding Line 3b:
Under Federal tab, Click on Deductions & Credits, then Click on Estimates and Other Taxes Paid, and finally, Click on Foreign Taxes.
Continue through the interview screens, and look for "Other Deductions Not Definitely Related."
If there are any numbers here ("0" or "NA" can even trigger it), delete them and leave the boxes blank. Do not even put a zero.
Continue to the end of the section. This should clear Line 3b.
If Line 3b has any value (even $1), the IRS requires an Explanation Statement (the program may also be looking for a number that shouldn't exist).
By clearing the value in the steps above, the "Explanation Statement" error should disappear automatically.
Please let us know if this doesn't work, and we can explore other options.

Goo5d morning, I need some guidance regarding 1099 Div Box 1b. I have been overlooking the instruction on the back of the form 1099-Div since 2015 and just stumble upon to look. On all the years I have been putting box 1a and 1b exactly to match the 1099 Div. Both boxes have the same numbers and I thought I have been paying the taxes on ordinary div as the is what included in AGI. My questions are- Should I even worry about this? How to fix this for current year? Should I start updating this starting with 2025 and go back to 2015 and pay any resulted tax? The amount is not large but I just realized this now. Could someone please guide me to avoid any issues with IRS. Here is the summary of Div in question- 2015 $ 156 2016 240 2017 252 2018 306 2019. 480 2020 1,728 2021 2022 720 2023 960 2024 1,200 2025 1,320 Thanks,

Everyone, the Foreign Country question started in 2024. Was your 2024 returns ok? This is a big reason for not entering using the Forms Mode in the Desktop program. If you enter your info directly into the forms you might miss a critical checkbox like this one. After you enter into forms you should go to the step-by-step interview and go though the rest of the questions. Especially if you have Social Security or 1099R income. See screen shot attached. Go back to the beginning of this thread on page 1 and read all the posts. Several users have said they missed the foreign country question. Like the original poster who said "Turbo Tax was saying that I owed zero tax on my social security. I ran the figures on the IRS worksheet and it showed I owed tax. I reviewed all the questions in Turbo Tax and the problem was that I had check 'yes' to the foreign residency question. Once I fixed that everything was fine." After you enter your SS in the interview questions the next screen is a big page to answer if you lived in a Foreign Country. You have to check NO on that screen and for each spouse if married. In Forms Mode check the top of the worksheet

The requested credit card info is more about additional fees or charges. Many retailers have this information on file for ready reference as well as verification of payment when necessary. It may be that the credit card is not used, if paid via direct bank debit etc. Re: desktop version.. same issue here. Who would think that TT would not attend to millions of WIN10 users with their '25 software. Shameful customer research & treatment. Going online also. We'll see how that goes.. Hopefully the '24 desktop filing transfer process goes smoothly.

As far as how you acquired it is concerned, you would say you purchased it, assuming you had done that originally. It would be considered your principal residence, assuming the garage is attached to the house you live in. The cost would be what you paid for the house multiplied by a fraction based on how big the garage is compared to the house. The the land value you may need to estimate based on what you can discern from your property tax bill. On the screen that says Do any of these situations apply to this Property? you need to check the "first year I rented", "I rent out part of my home", and "I converted this property from personal to rental use" options. As an example, if you paid $200,000 for the house and the garage was 25% the size of the house, the cost of the garage you enter would be $200,000 times 25%. If the land cost $20,000 when you purchase the house then it would have been 10% of the cost, so you would take 10% of the cost of the garage and use that for the land value. TurboTax will calculate the depreciation automatically based on the cost and date put into service entries you make.

Currently there is no built-in feature to automatically alphabetize a list of charities in TurboTax Online or within the "Step-by-Step" interview mode of TurboTax Desktop.
In TurboTax Desktop 2025, there is a technical workaround using Forms Mode to sort your data.
Here's how:
Select the Forms icon in the upper-right corner of your screen.
In the list of forms on the left, locate and select the Charitable Contributions Worksheet (or the Schedule A Worksheet section for donations).
Click on any line within the table where your charities are listed.
Go to the Edit menu at the top of your program.
Select Sort Table.
A dialog box will appear; choose to sort by Charity Name in Ascending order.
Click OK. This will reorganize your current list alphabetically.
