Yes, the amount of tax credit you receive will reduce your basis of rental property.    However, since you are depreciating the solar panel cost basis after the credit separately from the residence, you would not reduce the depreciable basis of the residence itself. You already adjusted the total property basis by reducing the basis of the solar panels.

@luism You are posting to an old thread.   If you are trying to file a past year return--any year earlier than an 2024 return----it cannot be e-filed.  The only way to file it is by mail.  E-filing for any earlier years is closed permanently.   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

You won't be able to do that within TurboTax program, but you can do it directly on the IRS website here.    In TurboTax, indicate that you will 'pay by check', then go to the IRS website and pay with your cards. Careful to select the correct reason for the payment.

I live in Illinois and work in Iowa. On my w2 roughly 2/3 of my income is written down as Illinois state wages and the other 1/3 is written down as Iowa state wages. I’m confused on why this split is happening or how it was determined? I also owe SIGNIFICANTLY more in taxes than I anticipated and can’t figure out why because nothing on my w2 indicates that I should owe that much.

I completed a schedule E/QBI for the income for my rental properties; however, I also constructed a storage building/warehouse on my personal property last year, 100% to support my rental property work, which is my main source of income.   I saw another post that suggested that such structures be 7-year assets, depreciated under Schedule C. Presently, I have all rental income and expenses listed under the Schedule E. Should I do a separate Schedule C just for the storage building asset, leaving the Schedule E intact?
The payment amount is the same regardless of the amendment. I am not sure if the e-payment would take care of this. Obviously, I try to avoid paying twice.

To use this payment with my refund option:  There is a $40 bank processing fee.   Your federal refund must be enough to cover your TurboTax fees. You must have a US address. You have to e-file. The name on the bank account needs to match the name on the tax return. You'll need to direct deposit your refund into a single account. When the IRS processes your return, the bank that handles the transaction charges a $40 processing fee.  Can I pay with my refund? Can I pay for TurboTax Full Service with my federal tax refund or get an advance on my refund?
This is happening to me too. Did you figure it out?
Please read this TurboTax Help topic for instructions on how to file a Federal extension and this one on how to file a state extension.

@David Hoffer     Postmark by midnight tonight 4-15-2025 or it is too late.   Look at your online account with the IRS to see if they sent you $1400 in 2021. https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account   If you could be claimed as someone else's dependent in 2021, you are not eligible for the payment.   If you were eligible and do not receive a payment soon from the IRS, the other way to get the payment is to amend your 2021 return to use the recovery rebate credit before April 15, 2025.   If you did not file a 2021 return at all, then prepare one and mail it in.   2021   https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040gi.pdf     Here is the IRS 2021 Form 1040 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2021.pdf or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2021.pdf   And 2021 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2021.pdf 2021 Tax and EIC Tables https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040tt--2021.pdf Sch 1 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2021.pdf Sch 2 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2021.pdf Sch 3 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2021.pdf

It is not allowing me to enter anything in the box when it populates a message:  Check This Entry Schedule SD WH: W-2 School District Tax should be entered on federal Form W-2, Box 19 for the School District Number entered above.    it gives this message and highlights a box but is not allowing me to enter anything in the box. There is no keyboard popping up, I tried it on my computer as well and it is not allowing me to type anything in the box.
