If you inherited the IRA in 2024, it's OK if you didn't make a distribution, as you said, the IRS is waiving penalties for tax year 2024, however it would not be OK if the original owner missed their Required Minimum Distribution )RMD) for tax year 2024.    If the original owner was of the age to require distributions, and none was taken for tax year 2024, you would need to take that RMD.  The waiver for that is that the deadline is extended to (for you) December 31, 2025.  So  if no RMD was made for 2024, (and one was required), you'll need to make two before the end of the year, one for the original owner's 2024 RMD and one for your 2025 distribution.    If the owner had not yet reached the age of Required Minimum Distributions, no distributions are mandatory until year 10.
In the 'Excess Accumulation Worksheet', TT-2024 asks for "Required RMD amount".  RMD for which year -- 2024 or 2025?

@11486 , sometimes it is better to claim only the safe harbor amount of  US$600  for  MFJ filer.  You will get the full amount.  If you choose the form 1116 , it is always  going to be limited to LESSER of actual Paid  and  Allocated US tax on the same  foreign source income.  The allocation is based on multiplying the total US tax on world income by the ratio of Foreign Source income to World Income.   That is  what  the tax treaty calls out.   Is there more I can do for  you ?

@barretthackbart It seems your situation is that when you sold the house, you had not yet owned it for even two years.   There are some special circumstances where there can be exceptions to the two to five year ownership requirement---so read the information here about those situations and see if any of them fit your reason for selling before two years.     https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/home-ownership/tax-aspects-of-home-ownership-selling-a-home/L6tbMe3Dy#GoTo-Special-circumstances
Thanks very much. I was able to resolve my issue using your reply.

Unless you actually go to NY and work or have a business operating there, you probably don't need to file a NY return. Here are the rules from the instructions for Nonresidents of NY.   You must file Form IT-203 if you meet any of the following conditions: You have income from a New York State source (see Nonresidents: New York source income) and your New York adjusted gross income (Federal amount column) is more than your New York State standard deduction. Complete Form IT-203, lines 1 through 31 and compare the line 31 Federal amount to your standard deduction from the New York State standard deduction table. You want to claim a refund of any New York State, New York City, or Yonkers income taxes withheld from your pay or from your unemployment insurance benefit payments. You want to claim any of the New York State, New York City, or Yonkers refundable or carryover credits.
Turbotax is asking for me to select a category for this W-2 Box 14 "CA 99-0584" description. I've tried to google it and not sure if it's part of CA SDI. Can someone help me understand what this is?
This is still an issue and is causing manual entry of thousands of business expenses. Please please help.
I am in the 2024 Tax Year version online.  Where is this box at the top of Schedule C?  I cannot find this box on the form anywhere.  Thank you.
