To enter your form 1099-Q in TurboTax Online, follow these steps:
Open your tax return
Click on Federal and Deductions & Credits in the left panel.
Navigate to the list of Deductions & Credits
Locate the Education section and click on the arrow on the right
Select Start next to ESA and 529 qualified tuition programs (Form 1099-Q).
If the distribution reported on form 1099-Q is fully justified by qualified education expenses (including room and board), you do not need to to enter form 1099-Q on your tax return. Just keep that form in your tax records along with proof of education expenses.
In your case, you can safely not enter that form 1099-Q on your tax return.

If you electronically file, refer to the filing instructions that were available to print out. If you mail your California Form 540 state income tax return, TurboTax instructions state: Mail a check or money order for $XXX, payable to "Franchise Tax Board". Write your Social Security number and "2025 Form 540" on the check. Mail the return and check together, but do not staple or attach the check to the return.

To enter a 1099-B with Box 5 marked as non-covered securities with code X (unknown holding period) in TurboTax Online, do the following: 1. Go to Federal Taxes > Wages & Income. 2. Scroll to Investment Income, then select Start or Update next to Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other. 3. Choose Type it in myself to enter the 1099-B details. 4. Enter the info exactly as on your form, including Box 5 checked and code X. It's important to know the holding period because it determines if securities are short-term or long-term gains. You should check the supplemental information from your brokerage firm to find the correct holding period. TurboTax will guide you to enter this so your tax return correctly reflects these details for IRS reporting.

If you contributed to a retirement plan like a 401(k) through your employer, this will be shown by a code D and a dollar amount in box 12. This dollar amount will already have been removed from Wages in box 1 when your W-2 was printed.
You have nothing further to do.

The IRS does not require a separate report for each country. As a result, TurboTax does not offer this feature because it requires filing multiple Forms 1116 to accommodate multiple countries. It is a lot of unnecessary paperwork, which can create errors.
If your foreign taxes are coming from Mutual Funds or ETFs (Regulated Investment Companies), you are often allowed to skip the country-by-country breakdown.
In the country selection dropdown, look for "RIC" or "Various."
If you select "RIC," you can report the entire lump sum of foreign tax on one Form 1116. This is widely accepted by the IRS for passive dividend income from diversified funds.

You can use this tool to determine what the SLCSP would be for them. You can use that tool or you can simply allocate any amount between 0 to 100% as long as the total of all the shared policies equal 100%. This means you can claim 100% and they can claim 0% or any number in between. You can also divide it by the total number of people on the policy, so if you had 4 people on the policy then you and your spouse would take 50% and each child would take 25%.
