You did indeed make a mistake.   Even if your wedding was on December 31, you are required to file as married for 2025.       You must wait for the original return to be fully processed before you amend.   Choose the most complicated return to use when you amend.  You cannot "pull" information from both of your incorrect "single" returns.   One of the spouse's information will all have to be entered again from scratch.     When you start the amended return, you will start in MY INFO.    The first name  entered will be the “primary” taxpayer——and in subsequent years you need to keep the names in that order—do not try to change the order of the names.     When you enter the primary spouse’s information in My Info, you have to answer the question "Were you married?"  If you click the button for Married, then a drop down will appear that asks, "Do you want to file this return together with your spouse?"  Then you choose YES to file a joint return.  You enter your spouse's information into My Info.  Whenever you are entering income information there should then be a spot for you and for your spouse's income information.  WATCH for the names as you enter income on the screens.  Or when you click to add income it will prompt you to choose which spouse had the income.   When you prepare a joint return you include all the information for both spouses on the SAME tax return.  Include all of your personal information, all of your income from every source, all dependents (if any), all credits and deductions for both of you.  You get ONE refund with both names on it.   And…keep a record of how to access the “old” account for your spouse in case a need comes up to print it or find information from it.  TT will save it online for seven years,     Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)     See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -   CURRENT YEAR https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US?uid=lfunevhk   Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return     Best Wishes!

If you deduct sales tax (not all taxpayers do this), you can add the sales tax from a vehicle, but only at the general rate.  For example, if your state and local sales tax for general purchases is 5% but vehicle purchases are taxed at 6%, you can deduct 5%.   If you live in a state that charges personal property taxes based on the value of your vehicle (ad valorem), you can list those taxes a personal property taxes.  You can't deduct any fee or tax that is not based on the value of the vehicle.  For example, in my county, every vehicle owner is charged a flat tax of $20 plus a variable tax based on the value of my car.  Only the variable tax is deductible.   In some states, this value-based tax is assessed as part of your registration fee instead of a separate tax bill from the county.  You can deduct the portion of the registration fee that is based on the value of the vehicle, but not any portion that is charged the same to everyone with a similar vehicle.

A 6% penalty is for an excess contribution.  When entering your traditional IRA contribution, make sur that you answer No, when TurboTax asks of you recharacterized or "switched" your contribution to be a Roth IRA contribution instead.  You did not.  You converted to Roth (assuming that you have no Form 1099-R with code N or code R in box 7).   As baldietax said, TurboTax will also flag an excess contribution if you did not have sufficient compensation to support the traditional IRA contribution, but that seems unlikely under the circumstances.

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.
After being told the Acorns 1099's would be available on March 25, 2026. The same ones (int. and div.) reappeared again still missing the 1099 B. Very frustrating and Acorns is zero help.

You are correct, in that TurboTax Online completes Schedule C for you based on your answers to the step-by-step interview questions rather than direct form entries. As VolvoGirl posted earlier, your best option to fix any errors is to return to the self-employment topic and review your answers to any questions that relate to the form error you are seeing.   If you are logged into TurboTax Online and have opened your return, use this link to begin: Schedule C

My wife and I got married at the end of 2025.  I mistakenly thought we could both still file single/head of household.  I am going to file an amended return before April 15, however, I just need to know if we can pull information from both returns (separate TT Log ins) into the amended return?  Or, do I have to re-enter all of the information from both returns into the amended return?  Lastly, does it matter which return we amend?  They were both separate returns and they will now be one.

For reference, I was able to file the city tax by manually filling out the form rather than uploading the TurboTax-generated file.  That method works for me. The city tax site requested only the first and second pages of the 1040 form.    It seems that the due balance calculated by TurboTax is the amount I have already paid from my paycheck. I'm not sure why TurboTax indicates that I owe money.  Anyway, everything is OK   Thanks

If the Social Security benefits is the Only income to be reported on the tax return and there is no federal income taxes being withheld, then there is no reason or need to file a tax return. Unless you also received a Form 1095-A for your health insurance through one of the State Marketplace Exchanges or from healthcare.gov then you must file a tax return.

Yes, that $38,600 is considered income from a CA source and you would need to pay CA taxes on this income.   Since you did not live in CA, it would be income received as a non-resident.  So you would answer No to did you earn this while a resident of CA.  However, if it is asking if you earned it, that sounds like it is talking about your wages.   The question you should be seeing is Other California Taxable Income and gambling income should show up.  So how did you enter your winnings?    To enter your prize winnings you would select the following: Federal Income Prizes, Awards, and Gambling Winnings under Less Common Income Then when you go to the CA return, be sure to choose that you did NOT live in CA that you were a CA nonresident all year.   If you did not enter them that way, you will need to go back and delete the place you entered the winnings and also be sure that you are selecting that you were not a resident of CA so you are doing a Non-resident return instead of a resident return.    Also, you will want to file your CA non-resident return first and then your NJ return so you can take a credit for taxes paid to CA on your NJ return so you are not being double taxed.    Multiple States—Figuring What's Owed When You Live and Work in More Than One State
Once your tax return is released to the State, TurboTax has no control over it.   However, you can check your State status on this site.   Check Your refund New York
