I'm new to the self-employed game and only had earnings in the 4th quarter of the year. When estimating expected income on the 1040-ES in order to pay Q4 taxes, do I still need to estimate as if for the whole year or just put in the actual 4th quarter earnings?

Do you mean the estimator for your W-4? Your W-4 is the document you give to your employer to tell them how much tax to withhold from your paychecks.

I've been following this thread hoping to gain insight. I think it's ridiculous that the software is not fully updated yet. The section on retirement income (IRA's, Pensions, etc.) keeps saying it will be available soon. But they won't give a date or even an estimate. I am having trouble understanding how they can't get this section completed with the tax law changes passed months ago. I've been using TT for a long time now... it seems like every 3 years or so they have some major bug or like in this case... delay in availability. I keep telling myself to try someone else... but never do because I've used TT about as long as there has been a TT. Perhaps my loyalty is misplaced.

When you ask if the software is "ready"---be mindful that the software still needs a number of updates and not all forms and schedules are ready yet. Many federal and state forms are not yet finalized. So you can download the software and start entering some of your information, but e-filing too soon is a terrible idea. The IRS will not begin to accept/reject 2025 e-files until January 26. It is better to wait even longer and file later in February at the earliest.

I am the trustee for a non-grantor third party special needs trust. I have made a distribution to the beneficiary's ABLE account. How is this handled for taxes for both the trust (1041) and the beneficiary (1040)? I know that qualified disability expenses are not taxable to the beneficiary. How is this reported on the 1040 if the trust issues a K-1 for the distribution?

Yes, that is why. Your tax return is not complete and cannot yet be filed.

Newegg also had box version for slightly more. I have been using TurboTax for many years. I have purchased it from Amazon, Costco, Newegg, etc. I have never seen TurboTax for the price I paid for H&R Block. this year
