No, a Maryland 1099-R should not prompt you to file a nonresident return in Massachusetts unless there is an entry error in the state portion of your federal 1099-R screen. This typically happens because "MA" was accidentally selected or imported into Box 15 (the state field) instead of "MD".
How to Fix the 1099-R Entry
Navigate to Federal > Wages & Income > Retirement Plans and Social Security.
Select Edit/Review next to the Maryland 1099-R.
Scroll down to the State Information section (Boxes 14-16).
If it says "MA," change it to "MD" to match your physical form.
Ensure no tax was accidentally entered as withheld for Massachusetts.
When you continue, if you are prompted with a list of states, ensure you select "Maryland"
If you've already corrected the state code to "MD" and the prompt persists, try deleting the 1099-R entirely and manually re-entering it rather than using the import feature.

If you purchased the Desktop version of TurboTax, the tax file you created exists only on the laptop or other device you used to create it. If you didn't save it to cloud storage, a disk or other device, the tax file won't be retrievable.
If you did save the tax file, in order to access a TurboTax desktop file (.tax file) in TurboTax Online, you must use the desktop version of TurboTax to upload your file. To access TurboTax Desktop from another computer, install the software using your original license code, then transfer your tax data file (.tax file) via a USB drive or cloud storage. You can install the software on up to 3 computers you own, but you must sign in with the same Intuit account.
Open the prior-year return, select "File" > "Save By," and ensure it is a .tax file. Then, in TurboTax Online, use the "Transfer last year's return" option, as shown on TurboTax Support to guide you, during the initial setup.
If you used TurboTax Online, sign in to your TurboTax account and navigate to the "Tax Home" screen. Scroll down to the "Your tax returns & documents" section, select the year you need, and choose "Download/print return (PDF)". If you do not see your return, ensure you are using the correct user ID.
See this help article for more information.

If there was no state tax withheld, also leave boxes 15 & 16 blank. Even if they were filled out on your form, they are not needed if there was no tax withheld. Filling them in will cause errors.

If you have an IP PIN but your daughter does not, enter your IP PIN in the IP PIN section only. For your daughter, select that she does not have an IP PIN or follow prompts to bypass entering one. To proceed: 1. Enter your 6-digit IP PIN. 2. Indicate your daughter does not have an IP PIN. 3. Continue through the section. If you have trouble moving past this screen, try logging out of TurboTax and logging back in. This can sometimes resolve issues and allow you to proceed smoothly.

I suggest you file for an extension
This will extend the time you have to file your taxes until October 15th, 2026.
On the left rail menu in TurboTax Online Select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.)
On the drop-down select Tools
On the Pop-up menu titled “Tools Center,” select File an extension
Follow the instructions to start the extension process
You may be asked to file a return!
Continue through this.
The extension will be filled, and your return will not.
Also, you may have to file your state taxes:
Do I need to file an extension for my personal state taxes?
Remember, an extension gives you more time to prepare your taxes, but it doesn't extend the time to pay your taxes. If you know you will have to pay taxes, you should pay them by the original due date of the tax return. This will avoid extra interest and penalties.

Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about your payment.
If you want to check the debit date you specified, look on the filing instructions for your return. It will tell you the debit date the IRS or State will deduct the payment. If you did not print them out you can view them using the following steps:
If you filed using TurboTax Online, the Electronic Filing Instructions page will give that info.
Here's how to view the PDF copy:
Sign in to TurboTax and open your return.
On the Tax Home screen, scroll to Your tax returns & documents and select Add a State (don't worry, you're not actually adding a state, this just gets you into the right area) to access your tax forms and worksheets.
In the menu, select Tax Tools, then Print Center.
On the TurboTax Print Center screen, select Print, save or preview this year’s return.
On the next TurboTax Print Center screen, select 2025 Federal return and Include government and TurboTax worksheets, then select View or print forms.
The information will be on the first page, Electronic Filing Instructions, for your 2025 Federal Tax Return, next to Balance Due/Refund.
TurboTax CD/Download
Go into Forms Mode by clicking on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar.
In the Forms in My Return list on the left, click Filing Inst. [It's usually toward the bottom of the list.] The form will appear on the right side of the screen.
You can view the form on the screen or you can print a copy by clicking the Print box at the bottom of the screen.
To return to the interview, click on the Step-By-Step icon in the top right of the blue bar.

"choose what to work on" is for desktop I think which just has a simpler navigation to the list of categories if you are using Online version, from the left menu you should have Deductions & Credits Summary and then from that screen you probably have an "add more tax breaks" button which will then show the list of sections below and you can scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid section; or put "Estimated Tax" into the search box.

Box 14 Description on one entry box is 'DT' rather than 'OT'. Correct?
Do you know that the 'DT' amount is also Qualified Overtime? Do you have information from your employer what this entry stands for? Why would the employer report two Qualified Overtime amounts?
If you have confirmation from the employer that the 'DT' amount is also Qualified Overtime, add the two amounts together and report under 'OT'.

I hit the same issue when I went back to TurboTax 2024 to update my tax return. To correct it, I similarly had to remove the last few versions of Visual C++ Redistributable, uninstall TurboTax 2024, restart Windows, reinstall TurboTax 2024 and follow its prompts to install updates (including the latest Visual C++ Redistributable), and then it finally worked again.

No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue. If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help. Do not use the word “refund.”

If your solar energy property was installed and in service in 2025, you should be able to claim a 30% for the cost of the solar energy property. You may want to go back and review the answers to questions in TurboTax for this credit. For instance, if you said that the home was not in the US, you wouldn't get the credit.
The one thing about the credit is that the amount of the credit is limited to your tax liability. For example, a $30,000 solar energy property installation would get a $9000 credit. But if your tax liability is only $4000, then you would only get $4000 of credit for 2025. The remaining $5000 of credit would get carried forward to 2026. If it isn't all used up in 2026, the remainder will keep getting carried forward until the credit is fully used up.
If you are using TurboTax desktop, you can check this in Forms view - click Forms on the blue banner at the upper right. Find Form 5695:
Line 6a will be the total cost of solar property installations and 6b will be 30% of that
Line 13 will have the total amount of credit that you are eligible for
Line 14 will be the limitation based on tax liability.
Line 15 will be your credit for 2025 and will be the smaller of line 13 or 14.
If line 14 is smaller than line 13, the difference will appear on line 16 as a credit carryforward to 2026
In TurboTax online, you won't be able to view Form 5695 on your return until you pay for the return. However, you can check to see if the credit is showing up by following these steps:
On the left side menu, click on Tax tools, then Tools.
On the Tools Center pop-up window select View Tax Summary
Click Preview my 1040 on the left side menu
Scroll down to Schedule 3 and look for line 5a - the solar credit is reported there.
Click Back on the left side menu to return to the tax prep section
If the credit is a state credit you are not getting, please provide information on the state that is not allowing the credit and whether or not you are getting the credit on the Federal return.
