You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2025 only.   Only a 2025 return can be prepared online and only a 2025 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and  2024 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

You can change the email address associated with your account through your account settings.   Intuit uses a single sign in system for all Intuit products, so changing it here will also update it for any other Intuit products you use, such as QuickBooks or Credit Karma.   To Change Your Email Address: Select Intuit Account located in the lower-left corner of your screen (near the Sign Out button). On the Account Manager page, select the Sign in & security menu. Select the Email address section. Enter your new email address and then enter it again to confirm. Enter your current password when prompted to verify the change. Select Save. Check your new email inbox for a verification link from Intuit and click it to finalize the update. If you can't sign in at all, you can go to the Intuit Account Recovery page. This requires you to upload a photo of a government-issued ID to verify your identity.

A learners permit is not a valid form of identification.    You are not required to enter any sort of ID in order to e-file your federal return, but some states (such as NY) are pretty picky, so if you do not have a valid state ID, your state return will have to be filed by mail.   New York prefers e-filed returns, but there are certain circumstances that make it necessary for you to file your NY return by mail and the state DOES allow mailed returns.    If you could not or did not e-file your federal return then your NY return cannot be e-filed.   It has to be mailed.   It is not possible to e-file any state return if the federal return was not e-filed and accepted by the IRS.   https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/efile/efile_mandate_for_individuals.htm https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/file/return_assembly_mail.htm

Currently there is no built-in feature to automatically alphabetize a list of charities in TurboTax Online or within the "Step-by-Step" interview mode of TurboTax Desktop.    In TurboTax Desktop 2025, there is a technical workaround using Forms Mode to sort your data.   Here's how: Select the Forms icon in the upper-right corner of your screen. In the list of forms on the left, locate and select the Charitable Contributions Worksheet (or the Schedule A Worksheet section for donations). Click on any line within the table where your charities are listed. Go to the Edit menu at the top of your program. Select Sort Table. A dialog box will appear; choose to sort by Charity Name in Ascending order. Click OK. This will reorganize your current list alphabetically.

No.  You can only deduct the premium portion of your OT.  So, if your pay rate is $20 per hour, and your OT is $30 per hour,  you can only deduct the $10 premium pay ($30-$20).     So it sounds like your employer broke this down for your properly on your W-2 and that is the amount you can deduct.  To qualify for the No Tax on Overtime Deduction the following must apply: You must be a non-exempt employee eligible for Overtime under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act The Overtime must be on hours worked OVER 40 hours.  (if you live in a state where OT pay is required after 8 hours, this does not apply) Overtime must be paid at more than your regular hourly rate.   Only the amount that is over your regular hourly rate is deductible.  For example,  If you make $30 per hour and are paid OT at $45 an hour, you can only deduct $15 per hour as overtime deduction. The deduction is limited to $12,500 (per person if married filing jointly) Your filing status cannot be Married Filing Separately Your income must be less than $150,000 if you are single or $300,000 if Married Filing Jointly.

How do you enter the ending mortgage balance so TT can calculate the average by (1/1 +12/31)/2? I entered the numbers off of the 1098 which include the beginning balance but not the ending balance. TT is not asking for the ending balance and just uses the beginning balance as the average. How do you get this number into TT?

Can you help me look into this more? I am seeing this question from several people, but for me to look into it more, I have to provide additional information.    I need to confirm you applied for and was approved for the Refund Advance. Can you send me a screenshot of two things?    1. Your order details shows Refund Advance under your refund method. 2. An email showing you were approved from Credit Karma   Here is how to find those things:   Check Your TurboTax Order Details On the Tax Home page, scroll down to the section for "Your tax returns & documents." Select View Order Details. Look for "Refund Advance" or "Credit Karma Money" listed under your payment and refund methods.  If it’s not there, you likely selected a standard direct deposit or a different refund option.   Look for Confirmation Emails If you applied, you should have received automated emails from TurboTax and its partners. From TurboTax: Search for an email confirming your "Refund Selection." From Credit Karma: If you were approved, Credit Karma sends an email when the funds are deposited into your Credit Karma Money Spend account. From WebBank: If your application was denied, you will receive an email from WebBank (the lender) explaining the reason for the decline.   If you can't find those things, you could send me either of these items:   Check Your Credit Karma Money Account Because the Refund Advance is deposited into a Credit Karma Money™ Spend account, checking that account is the fastest way to see if the loan was processed. Log in to your Credit Karma account. Navigate to the Money tab. If you see a pending or completed deposit for a portion of your refund (typically between $250 and $4,000) shortly after the IRS accepted your return, that is your Refund Advance.   Review Your Tax Return Summary You can also find clues on your actual tax forms: Open your 2025 return in TurboTax Go to the Tax Tools menu on the left Select Print Center View your Federal Information Worksheet Look at the "Direct Deposit" section If you signed up for the advance, the bank account listed will be the MVB Bank account associated with Credit Karma, rather than your personal bank account.

Roughly 37% of taxpayers are eligible. Examples of situations included in a simple Form 1040 return (assuming no added tax complexity): W-2 income Interest, dividends or original issue discounts (1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-OID) that don’t require filing a Schedule B IRS standard deduction Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Child Tax Credit (CTC) Student loan interest deduction Taxable qualified retirement plan distributions   Examples of situations not included in a simple Form 1040 return: Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers) Stock sales (including crypto investments) Income from rental property or property sales Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules        How can I see my TurboTax  fees?  https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k   If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons     (BEFORE you e-file) :   Remove Premium Services Remove MAX Defend & Restore Remove a state Remove PLUS Help & Support Remove Pay With Your Refund     Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site   https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

@DoninGA I'm sorry, I don't think we are on the same page about the issue. I have already completed the steps necessary to populate my Tax Return Amendment documents for both Federal And State. However, at the final step in the process (Under the REVIEW tab when you get to the part that says "Let's get ready to file your taxes", "Great Job you're almost done." "It's time to wrap up your 2024 taxes and file your returns.), I click Continue, expecting that the next page would allow me to electronically file my 2024 tax amendment with the state of California, but the Continue button does not respond. Nothing happens.

TurboTax states in the Home Mortgage Section that it does not provide the service of computing an average mortgage balance, however before the interview in that section ends, there is an option to adjust the amount of interest you can claim.    The IRS gets a copy of the interest statement Form 1098 from your Lender.  TurboTax uses a "worksheet" to calculate the interest.  If you decide to use the average balance and claim an amount of interest slightly different than what TurboTax computed, there is nothing that TurboTax sends to the IRS other than the interest you claim on Schedule A.   This "Average daily Balance" would need to be calculated by you separately.   Although you may still be disappointed that the program does not make the calculation for you, you may feel relieved that you making an adjustment in TurboTax does not cause any more scrutiny from the IRS than if you did your return by hand as a paper return.  The same information (return done by hand or done via software program) is sent to the IRS.
