For two days I have been working on Retirement section of my TT Premier desktop return. The interview keeps asking about Canadian Pension information. I did NOT select as it has never applied to me. I delete the form and save the return. As soon as I reopen the program to continue, it reappears again. Obviously this is a glitch in TT . Assume I'll be in the same position as the original poster when I get to the final review stage. I've been a TT user for 20+ years. Do I report this to TT?

Sometimes users of the Free Edition get caught by having a small amount of retirement income contributions and are prompted to upgrade to a paid version. If that is what is going on, you can avoid the retirement saver credit by telling the software in MY INFO that you were a student. That will disqualify you for that little credit and keep you in Free Edition.
Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free. There are 8 free software versions available from the IRS Free File site

But not to corporations or for merchandise. You send the IRS a copy of the 1099NEC with the transmittal summary form 1096. These are due to the person by Jan 31 and to the IRS by Jan 31 also.

If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. The Online versions don't have all the same forms so you might have to upgrade to a higher Online version. You can only do 1 return per account. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2025 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

Even after being told the update won't be available for the desktop version for a week or more maybe, who knows, if they feel up to giving us what we paid for it might show up in a few weeks. I just signed up to get the notification for this nonsense through the desktop app and lo and behold it immediately sends me an email telling me to just update everything on your computer and the forms available now. That of course doesn't work because Intuit is a struggling mom and pop with two or three employees that can't get around to fixing things like this or set up email notifications that notify people that are using their desktop version versus their online version versus their bunch of nonsense. If the email is for the online version what am I being told to update exactly on my computer? You have to download updates when you're using the online version? Your tax forms are ready. The wait is over! The tax forms we needed to finish up your taxes are ready. Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits Open TurboTax on your computer, install the updates when prompted, and your forms will be automatically included.

Schedule C is used for your business expenses when you are self-employed. You cannot use the Free Edition if you have self-employment income.
If you have self-employment income for which you will pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare, you will need to use online Premium software or any version of the desktop software download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.
