Q. My daughter is a dependent on my return. Do I need to use her 1098-T on her return?
A. No. It goes on your return, even though it was issued to her.
A more accurate answer would be usually no.
Here's a post on the five main points on the 1098-T:

If you just need to see the 2020 tax return or print it, you could try TaxPrinter. You send them your .tax2020 file and they send you back a PDF of the tax return, which you can then print with Acrobat Reader. TaxPrinter has no connection with TurboTax. I have never used TaxPrinter, so I cannot make a recommendation. I'm just making you aware of it.

If TurboTax is asking you for a second payment, it may be because you are using a different username/account. Some people have multiple accounts and it's easy to get them confused.
Also, you may have inadvertently created another TurboTax account. Make absolutely sure you are using the correct TurboTax account.
If you tried editing your return after you paid but before you submitted it, that may cause this.
A duplicate charge could be a "pending" authorization and not the final charge.
Check your bank statement to verify if you were charged twice by TurboTax.

Can you clarify how much you contributed - "as a freelancer my taxable income was lower than what I put into my Roth IRA account in 2025" Do you mean your compensation was too low to cover the contribution (at most $7000 or $8000 if 50 or older), or did you misunderstand the upper contribution limit? The same upper and compensation limits apply for Trad IRA contributions if you plan to recharacterize, it's just a question of whether you qualify to make a Roth contribution or deductible Trade IRA contribution due to the MAGI phaseouts. If you do recharacterize say to a non-deductible Trad IRA contribution then your basis will be the original amount of the Roth contribution, and any gains/losses are treated as having happened in the Trad IRA. see 590a "excess contributions" and "recharacterization" sections for guidance https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p590a.pdf note the time limit to sort this out includes extensions so you might need to do that to provide time to sort it out with your brokerage.

Thank you for the pointer to the list of forms available on each version of TurboTax, but this post is largely about missing or broken functionality in one of the forms (3468 solar investment credit) which your team mentioned was being addressed, but probably not before filing deadline. I'm trying to figure out how I can track when that functionality gap has been fixed? Any thoughts here? Thank you!

If you can download your 2024 TurboTax file (.tax2024) but cannot open it, do not try opening it directly. Instead, open your TurboTax program first, then select "Open Tax Return" from the file menu.
If it is a PDF, make sure you have a PDF viewer like Adobe Reader.
Run all available updates to your TurboTax program.
If you have Norton 360 antivirus on your computer it prevents TurboTax from running after the most recent TurboTax update. If that is your situation, try temporarily disabling it.
Make sure the file ends in .tax2024. You cannot open a .tax2024 file with Adobe Reader, and you cannot open a .pdf in TurboTax.

I have a short-term Airbnb rental (average stay under 7 days) and I materially participate. Under Treasury Reg 1.469-1T(e)(3)(ii)(A) and IRC Section 469, i think this should be treated as a non-passive activity, meaning my rental losses should offset my W-2 income. TurboTax (both Online and Desktop) keeps treating it as a passive rental and running it through Form 8582, which limits my losses to $0 because my income exceeds $150k. I did have passive losses the prior year from a long term rental. I've checked Box D (Material Participation) on the Schedule E worksheet in Desktop. Form 8582 is still there and still showing $0 allowed losses. Has anyone successfully gotten TurboTax to properly treat their STR as non-passive? I prefer the online version because when i sync'd my online version to the desktop version, my rental's net come in oddly 10,000 dollars higher on the desktop version.

Thanks for this. I suspected that it was counting the Marketplace insurance twice. I entered under that insurance expense under business expenses and also entered the information from form 1095A. That would have been more obvious if the difference in the total had matched the amount that I paid for Marketplace insurance. My Marketplace insurance wasn’t subsidized so I don’t think I have to pay anything back. Guess I’ll see. I had to go out of town so I’m away from my computer. I’ll try making the change when I get back tomorrow night. 🤞 Assuming this is the issue, I really wish there had been a note on TurboTax stating that if you have marketplace insurance, don’t enter it under business expenses. They’re usually so good about this. Your situation sounds much more complicated. I’m sorry I can’t help you. I hope someone responds to this thread ASAP. I had high hopes! FYI my husband found us private insurance not on the marketplace. It’s through Anthem Healthkeepers. It’s a high deductible plan but we’re used to that. The cost is less than what we were paying for his COBRA and my marketplace insurance. Our big issue was my husband needing to continue seeing an out of state doctor which isn’t an option on any marketplace plan.

Actually it’s 6,000 for one and 12,000 for both spouses 65+ It is automatic based on your age. It is not part of your Standard Deduction. The new Senior Deduction is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. The 6,000/12,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b with any other sch 1-A amounts. Turbo Tax automatically includes it if you qualify. For Single the deduction starts to phase out at 75,000 and maxes out at 175,000 For Joint the deductions starts to phase out at 150,000 and maxes out at 250,000 If you are married you have to file a Joint return And your SSN must be VALID for employment. Do NOT check the box saying Not Valid under My Info.
For Online version You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/accessing/help/how-do-i-preview-my-turbotax-online-return-before-filing/00/26160 What do you have on 1040 or 1040SR line 13b? See the 1040 ….

TT is taking the majority of my federal return just for filing. This is the "free" version. Costs $200+ with only taking the direct deposit option and declining all the other extras, so I don't have to worry about cashing a check or using a stupid prepaid debit card. A complete scam.
