I am in the addback screen - for prior year entries only. I entered a 2024 amount to test the program. I entered 1/5 to see what happens. I switched over to forms and see the Sch of Adj line 26 is correct with the entry and amounts. Line 27 shows the amount for this year.  You have a choice, you can continue with this method or you can choose to enter the remaining balance of previous add-backs. What I do not see is the election for those that want to take the rest of it this year in the program. Since you are on the desktop, follow these steps: Switch over to forms mode Locate the Ohio Sch of Adjustments Line 27, enter the correct amount you want to claim this year. The program lets you type into the field, no override. Switch back to step by step and you will see the program is holding the new value.

I'm sure the IRS would accept your return using a PDF editor to add the tax on Schedule 2, since you're using TurboTax Online and mailing your return.  However, there are several other lines in your return where you would need new totals on too.   Schedule 2, Lines 18 and 21, Form 1040, Lines  23, 24 and 34 or 37.  I'm not sure the TurboTax Audit Guarantee would cover this situation.    It may be easier to report the income in the Interest section, as suggested by @DaveF1006 above, and let the IRS add the tax to your income.  Include Form 8621 with your mailed return.    Here's instructions from the IRS on Form 8621.     @Dsghj48ad

@IsabellaGThanks for the reply, the token number provided was 1344475 (using Scenario 3 below). I do suspect I might be able to delete the form, skip the review piece, and possibly file without dealing with the errors, however, I'd prefer a clean method as opposed to trying to hack the process.   Additional background and what I've tried so far:   Start the Oklahoma state review and select 0 for Oklahoma Amount in Wages, Interest, Dividends, Capital Gains, Rentals. I am then hit the "You May Not Need to File an Oklahoma Return" page. (I've also tried to delete Form 561NR at different stages, but TurboTax will just re-generate it.)   Scenario 1: - Select "No, I am not required to file an Oklahoma return, but I still want to file to get a refund" - Continue through (and pretty much opt out of any other sections) to State Review. - I'll get dozens of errors and be prompted to fix Form 561NR to input several "Oklahoma gain or loss wks", "Federal ID Number", and "Type of property sold" for unrelated stock sales found on my Federal return. (Zero-ing these out will not clear these errors.)   Scenario 2 (basically the same outcome as Scenario 1): - Select "No, I don't need to file." - Continue through (and pretty much opt out of any other sections) to State Review. - I'll get dozens of errors and be prompted to fix Form 561NR to input several "Oklahoma gain or loss wks", "Federal ID Number", and "Type of property sold" for unrelated stock sales found on my Federal return. (Zero-ing these out will not clear these errors.)   Scenario 3 (worked last year): - Select "Yes, I am required to file." - Select 'No'/'No' for "Sales of Government Obligations". - Select 'No' for "Federal Agency Bond Interest". - Opt out to "Adjustments to Federal Income". - Land on "Summary of Oklahoma Capital Gains and Losses". - Go through each entry leave Oklahoma Location, Federal Identification Number, Type of Property Sold empty or zero out (same outcome). Do not mark the checkbox for "This property does not qualify for exclusion." - Put 0 for "Amount Earned in Oklahoma". - After going through each one, note the table shows 0 'OK Gain or Loss' for each entry. - Next page "About Your Capital Gains and Losses" will state that TurboTax is missing required information for Oklahoma long-term capital gains and losses (Oklahoma Location, Federal Identification Number, Type of Property Sold, "Indicate the sale doesn't qualify for Oklahoma exclusion.") - Continue through (and pretty much opt out of any other sections) to State Review. - I'll get dozens of errors and be prompted to fix Form 561NR to input several "Oklahoma gain or loss wks", "Federal ID Number", and "Type of property sold" for unrelated stock sales found on my Federal return. (Zero-ing these out will not clear these errors.)

Hi, this came up in the review of our Pennsylvania state return. It refers to a distribution from our TAP 529 plan for our son's education expenses. I don't know what it is asking. What is "Nonded contrib - taxpayer?" The form view blank is highlighted for "Contributions made in 2024 and earlier." Is it asking when we made the original contributions to the account that funded this distribution? How would I know? We have been making contributions for 18 years; how do I know whether they took out the dollars we contributed in 2025 or the dollars we contributed in 2012? It's not like they're all marked.    Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I am attaching a screenshot of schedule E worksheet.  I am NOT a real estate professional, my income is above $150,000 and I don't have any other passive activity.   Does this worksheet look correct?  Rental income is $6500 so my understanding is I cannot get a loss that flows to Line 8 of my 1040.
So long as the private account is not a Roth (i.e., after tax), the funds that are rolled over will not be taxable on your federal return nor in Alabama.

You sign an efile return by entering your 2024 AGI to verify you. If you need to give someone a copy you need to print it out and sign it in ink. You don't physically attach any forms like W2s or 1099 to your return. When you efile you don't have to mail in anything except a tax due payment if you said to pay by check. That's one of the benefits of efiling, nothing to mail in. No.   Form CSA 1099-R is a specialized version of form 1099-R which is exclusively used by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to report civil service retirement payments to Federal employees.
Also why is RITA Form 37 no longer in the Desltop Deluxe version    Does that make sense?

This can happen when the software marks a check as cleared, but the filing module spots a small difference and needs to run the "Review" step again. Since you’re using the desktop version, you can ignore any browser cache steps and focus on what’s happening inside the software.   Sometimes the temporary "ready to file" files get corrupted. Try this sequence:   Save a backup of your tax file (.tax2025 or similar) under a different name (e.g., TrustReturn_v2).  Delete the State Return (only within the program): Go to the "Federal Taxes" (or "Federal Review") section first. Then, look for a way to "Remove State." Re-add the State: This forces the software to pull fresh data from your Federal entries and often clears the hidden "flag" causing the loop. Since it's March, there may be a specific NY form update that didn't trigger automatically.   Go to the Online menu at the top. Select Check for Updates. If it says you are up to date, try the "Repair" function: Close TurboTax, go to your Computer's Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program > TurboTax > Repair. Sometimes the software needs a "finalized" state to move forward.    Try going to File > Print and select "Print for Filing." * Save it as a PDF. Occasionally, the act of generating the final filing forms "locks" the data in a way that allows the Transmit button to finally register the "Check" as complete.
I am encountering that same error and have attempted to work through it multiple times... what was the correction that needed to be made?  What's the resolution?

Please see this recently updated TurboTax help article and the steps below: Adding password protection to my tax file Open the tax return you want to password-protect. From the File menu at the upper left of the screen, select Password... (on Mac, select Encrypt). Fill out the information in the pop-up window and then select Add Password. Because your password information is stored locally on your system, we're unable to help with forgotten passwords. Make sure you store your password in a safe place, such as a password manager program.   Password-protecting a PDF on a Mac is best done using the built-in Preview app. Open your PDF, select File > Export, click the Permissions button, check Require Password To Open Document, enter your password, then save the file. You can also restrict printing or copying in this menu.   If TurboTax for Mac fails to save a PDF with a password, it may also be due to macOS security settings or Keychain issues. To address this, give TurboTax Full Disk Access in System Settings, try a different file name to avoid overwriting, or use the "Print to PDF" option instead of "Save to PDF" If you go to  System Preferences > Security & Privacy> Privacy, scroll down on the left window to the folder that says Full Disk Access. You should then see a window where the 2025 Turbo Tax icon should be checked. If it is not checked, unlock the lock and go in and check it.   [Edited 03/24/26| 10:00am PST]  @cj5

Did the Georgia letter include a request to pay any penalty or interest? If so, I would consider filing a TurboTax Accuracy Guarantee first (see following)...   How do I submit a claim under the TurboTax 100% Accurate Calculation Guarantee or 100% Accurate, Expert Approved Guarantee? Use the form below to submit your claim. Answer the questions as best as you can and we’ll figure out which guarantee you’re covered by.   For instructions on how to amend your state return, please see this FAQ.   Note, depending on how your return is structured, this Georgia change may or may not change your federal return as well, which would also need to be amended.

So, using the Windows desktop version of TurboTax Premier, I see the same screens that the users on your previous post describing how to handle nontaxable income reported on a 1099-NEC and do not see a screen that allows me to enter the reason nor do I see the next "does one of these uncommon situations apply?" screen.  Continuing with the other post, I see that choosing "Hobby" as the reason for the income, I entered the info about the payer and payment and was taken directly to the 1099-NEC summary screen.    Continuing on, I did enter a negative amount in the "Other reportable income" selection of the "Miscellaneous Income" with the explanation that it was expenses related to the 1099-NEC reimbursement of living expenses while displaced from our home with no intent to earn money.   Thank you for the detailed help!
