It's all right to enter a CA zip code. Keep in mind the IRS already has this 1099-MISC and the option to complete the form in the tax software is to make entry easier with all the proper income added to your tax return.    As long as the income is reported on your tax return is the key. Keep your form in your tax files should you need it at any future point.

Yes, if you wish to preserve your carryover into year 2027, you should file a Form 1116 with the IRS. it isn't mandatory.  Unfortunately though, TurboTax will not file a Form 1116 if you have no foreign tax credit to claim for 2025 or if the filing threshold was below a certain limit.   If you don't file Form 1116 this year, the carryover doesn't just vanish. You would simply "track" it yourself and then report the 2025 carryover amount on your 2027 return (specifically on Schedule B of Form 1116) when you actually have the capacity to use it.    [ Edited 04/08/2026 I 6:51 AM PST]

I elected (and paid turbo tax a fee) to have them pay with return thru my bank, which I gave them info for. (Though that might have been for filing the Oregon return and the payment was a free option forget now)   After that I got an email which said in part (besides my return being accepted):   "What's next   If you haven't already, avoid paying anything more than you owe by making sure your taxes are paid in full by your state's tax filing deadline."   I emailed them asking why I got this message if they paid the amount, I did not get a similar message about my federal return, which had a large carry over. (NO RESPONSE)   After reading above I looked at the start of my state return and it shows the bank information I provided, but shows amount due.  I guess I will have to check to see if my amount was deducted or see if the state can tell me anything or make a just in time (double?) payment. (Deadline is just a week away)   (Oh as I was filing I got a need to update software error!, I saved my return again after that and it to shows the bank info etc. - maybe the final error check should include check if an update is needed.  Not sure why update is needed what if I filed just before they updated it!  I am using the desktop version I know errors are found and fixed but shouldn't be continuous)   Certainly won't be paying Turbo Tax in the future to make the payment, I can pay on the internet (or by mail) easily and for free without worries.

I received the following email: IND-032-04 - The spouse's Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) or 5-digit Self Select PIN entered for last year doesn't match IRS records.   I went through the "fix" process but there was nothing to fix. My wife's PIN is the same as last years and her 2025 AGI is the same as mine. They are correctly shown in TurboTax and TurboTax confirms it at a certain point before submitting. I re-typed it in just in case there was a glitch and re-submitted. It got rejected again. It makes no sense. Everything is 100% correct. I know this has come up before in this community but didn't find anything this year and things change from year to year. Thanks for your help.

@carson2246    Yeah "they" keep changing the Q&A for some supposedly perceived & nebulous flaws on ten software's logic.   IF the 1099-R represents all your RMD for that account type.....then just indicate the box 1 value as the RMD on one page...then select that it was ALL the required RMD on the next page.

Can I avoid interest and any penalty by depositing the correct amount of my taxes due for the omitted income into my IRS account by April 15th?   Thank you.

The Form 2210 will show you the interest and penalty rates charged by the IRS each year. The following information will help to understand the process of calculating that amount.  The IRS is a pay as you go system which means when the money is earned the tax is due. Form 2210 Instructions - Penalty calculation Worksheet, page 7 It is possible to have a refund and still have an underpayment penalty if the payments were not paid equally across all payment dates.    Generally, you can avoid the penalty if your total timely estimated payments and withholdings are greater than or equal to the lesser of: 90% of the total tax after credits for the current year, or 100% of the total tax after credits in the prior year See one exception below. You can also avoid the penalty if the amount you owe is less than $1,000 as long as any estimated tax payments you made are timely.   Note: High-income taxpayers. If your adjusted gross income (line 11 of your 2025 Form 1040) is greater than $150,000 (or $75,000 if you're married and file a separate return from your spouse), you can avoid a penalty by paying at least 110% of your total tax from the prior year.   @pugetsoundguy
