@ddranalli I did reply to your follow-up question on the other post. Because she was a NEW JERSEY resident before placement, she can retain her New Jersey residency. If the sister has a durable Power of Attorney with specified powers to relocate, she could decide to change her to Pennsylvania residency if she is released from the facility. Since she was a New Jersey resident, and still resides there at a facility, you should not have filed the Pennsylvania state return. You can amend and file for New Jersey.

On my overview of refund shows "penalty on early withdrawal of savings" as part of my deductions. I'm assuming this is actually my portion of the one time senior $6000 addition to the standard deduction as it's added. Just a mislabeling on the online premier version. Anyone able to confirm? Don't see an easy way to confirm with Intuit.

In other words, be sure to enter your required minimum distribution (RMD) for each 1099-R, and do not include the total RMD in only one 1099-R entry. This is what the statement is saying and as indicated, the RMD must be taken for each account. Your financial agency will automatically calculate this for each account based on your age.

@Canonical Keeping track..... 1) State Withholding? No...that is automatically included when you enter your W-2 or 1099-??? form into the software, whenever State withholding was done for the particular tax form in question. 2) A final State tax payment Due....a Maybe to a YES. Usually, if you remain in the same account in TTX, the software transfers the proper amount from the prior year....BUT...accidents do happen, and you should ALWAYS print a final copy of your Fed and State tax returns to paper and store in a yearly-labelled file folder to use the next year...if needed. You do need to make sure that state payment was entered each succeeding year. 3) Also, if a person makes and 4th Quarter estimated tax payment in (say) January of 2026 for your2025 state taxes, that is not included in the 2025 Federal Schedule A either because it wasn't actually paid in 2025. I usually make a State 4thQtr estimated payment, but always pay it in December to avoid having to keep track of that too.

It's probable that next year your agent AI will prepare your tax return. You can forget about TurboTax. @wstiles5

Once you have entered the first Form 1099-SA, look for the blue box under the summary that says + Add. This will allow you to include a second (or more) Form 1099-SA.

Wow, I never saw a screen like that. MarilynG1 (employee tax expert) had posted that you could enter room and board if you indicated that part of the scholarship went to room and board. But I put in the amount of the spring scholarship (which could have been applied to dorm in spring) and still didn't see all these other expenses in your screen shot. And the problem was that our student's full year room and board exceeded her scholarships for the year. I finally filed last night after putting room and board on the People worksheet and seeing it transferred to the Student info worksheet where our 529 distributions (which were less than total educational expenses) were subtracted so our 529 distributions weren't taxable. One thing that tripped me up in filing was the new IP PIN. TT had filled in those fields for the two of us, so I assumed they were correct, but they were old ones that we'd chosen, not ones (randomly) generated by the IRS. So I looked in my tax folder (paper) and found one I'd printed, but had no date on it, it turned out to be the one I used to file last year, so I had to log in to the irs.gov website with ID.me authentication and get one for this year and so did my husband. There was a field for our dependent student's on the TT form, thank goodness it didn't ask for hers, but I'm sure she will need one to file her return to get back what was withheld from her summer and part time jobs.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
