We have seen a lot of people who made a user error with the entry of their SSA1099. The screen right after you enter the SSA1099 asks you if you lived in certain foreign countries in 2025. If you skipped past that screen or answered incorrectly, your Social Security was not taxed correctly. Look at your Form 1040 and see if line 6b was left blank due to that mistake. The IRS is catching those mistakes and correcting them by reducing your refund.

So in other words what I have right now is double dipping. It’s either one or the other unless I paid more taxes on another property correct?

The entry I made that has the red lettering is a copy of a document that Wells Fargo emailed me. Wells Fargo is messed up when it comes to this issue. The hard copy they mailed to us via USPS is the legal document I'm assuming. In the event we get audited by the IRS that hard copy mailed to use will be used. When I log into the Wells Fargo account, currently the 2025 Consolidated Forms 1099 on the website still matches the hard copy they mailed us back in January. We are waiting until April to file our taxes because I don't trust Well Fargo.

4. No there is no tax rebate for working from home.
Sorry---W-2 employees cannot deduct job-related expenses on a federal return. Job-related expenses were eliminated as a federal deduction for W-2 employees by the tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond. Your state tax laws might be different in AL, AR, CA, HI, MN, NY or PA.
If you are preparing a return for a state that lets you deduct job-related expenses, the information will flow from your federal return to the state return, so enter it in Federal>Deductions and Credits>Employment Expenses>Job-Related Expenses
5. Is that a charity?
Charity donations are an itemized deduction; unless you have enough itemized deductions to exceed your standard deduction, the charity donation has no effect.
Your itemized deductions have to be more than your standard deduction before you will see a change in your tax owed or tax refund. The deductions you enter do not necessarily count “dollar for dollar;”—medical expenses, for example, must meet a threshold that is pretty hard to reach. (Only the amount that is MORE than 7.5% of your AGI counts) The software program uses all the IRS rules that apply to the deductions you enter, and it tells you if you have enough to use your itemized deductions or if using the standard deduction is more advantageous for you.
The standard deduction makes some of your income “tax free.” It is not a refund. You will see your standard or itemized deduction amount on line 12e of your Form 1040.
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)

I am unable to sort “Your charities and donations” in alphabetical order like we used to be able to do. This makes it harder (more time consuming) for one to enter the charitable donations information when one has organized their files in alphabetic order. Based on a 2021 post, the feature apparently did not exist for 2020 returns, but for the last several years, TurboTax desktop has allowed one to at least sort the list into alphabetic order each time one went to the list. For the 2025 version, this feature appears to be gone. Very disappointing!

I received a notice from the IRS that my 2025 tax return was being amended due to a tax calculation error. I checked all the Turbo Tax work sheets to see if I made an error entering anything. I did not find any, and called the IRS to see what the error was. Turbo Tax calculated my taxable Social Security incorrectly. I can understand an error being made in the Turbo Tax programming, but when I tried to contact Intuit to inform them of this I was surprised at the extreme effort they go through to ghost their customers. I have been an Intuit customer for 24 years. I think I am done.

Turbotax Deluxe 2025. Import tax document from LPL. Account number on 1099-DIV is 8 digits. It fails to connect on LPL. I retried using a minus sign as 1234-5678. OK, asks not a robot. Turbo reply: "We didn't find the right account types to connect at this provider. We can connect to LPL Financial but can't find the right kind of accounts." 11-digit document number is alphanumeric characters. "4 3 4" entered without spaces, Fails. Also fails with spaces or hyphens. Using EDGE on WIN-11.

If you itemize taxes, instead of taking the standard deduction, you may be able to deduct mortgage interest and charitable donations - but only if you itemize. Most people take the standard deduction. More info on Itemized Deductions

Yes, you will need to file a New York State return unless your income falls within the filing threshold limit. For NYS, the 2025 standard deduction amounts are Single (cannot be claimed as a dependent): $8,000 Married Filing Jointly: $16,050 Married Filing Separately: $8,000 Head of Household: $11,200 If your income exceed those amounts according to your filing status, then you need to file a New York State return. New York will only tax income earned while working in New York (unless it's Market-Based Sourcing) and there will be allocation screens in your New York State return that will allow you to allocate income earned while working in NYS. There is a catch however. New York uses Market-Based Sourcing for service providers. This means NY looks at where the benefit of the service is received. If you are a consultant and your client is using your work to run their New York-based business, NY law argues that the "market" is in New York, and therefore the income is taxable there—regardless of where you were sitting when you did the work. This is what I was referring to in my original answer when I mentioned Market-Based Sourcing.

Thank you. When I deleted my Traditional IRA contribution for 2025 my tax refund decreased for appr. USD1600 which is appr. amount I calculated I need to pay due to my Traditional IRA had balance when I convert part of it to Roth IRA. Is that correct at this point? This year I wanted to do the same - contribute USD7000 to Traditional IRA (after tax because of income) and convert it to Roth IRA (because I am not eligible to contribute to Roth IRA straight). So I started to do Traditional IRA contribution for 2025. I answered "No" to "Did Maryna recharacterize any of the Traditional IRA contributions for 2025 over to Roth IRA? This does not include conversions or rollovers". I answered "Yes" to "Did Maryna make any nondeductible IRA contributions to your Traditional IRA from 2024or prior years?". I answered 7000 to "If Maryna made any nondeductible contributions in prior years, look at Maryna's most recent Form 8606. Find the box called total basis and enter the number from that box below. If you never filed a Form 8606 just enter 0 (zero). What was Maryna's total basis as of December 31, 2024?" After answering this question Turbotax increased my refund on those USD 1600, so I am doing mistake somewhere in these answers. Please help
