Thank you so much for the reply and insight. But this post makes me a bit confused. Some people say that if you never physically worked within New York for that year, then the convenience of the employer rule doesn't apply to you, and they point out that there is a Statute supporting it. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/remote-worker-in-tn-but-employer-in-ny/00/3222761 I assume there should be a clear answer for my situation, but it seems like everyone has a different opinion.

Did you e-file your state tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...

Thanks to all who responded. As noted there are numerous RMD posts on this forum, so it seems that TT could improve on this section of the program.

You may have to pay tax on the income, but since it is taxed the same as US social security income (per a tax treaty with Germany), it would only be taxed up to a maximum of 85%. Like your domestic contribution to social security is not tax deductible, neither is your contribution to the German Social Security. In both instances, you may end up being double taxed on the benefits.
You include the German social security income on the entry you make for your US social security income in TurboTax.

I know this is an old post but I am having this issue for Illinois in 2026 for tax year 2025. I gave Turbotax all my info believing they were processing what I owe Illinois but nothing has been taken out of my bank and it is after the scheduled date I chose. I guess I am trying to pay before there is a penalty but don't want to double pay because it is almost $3,000.00. I wish there was a true payment status screen to help me on Turbotax but I can't find that with my state so that is why they don't have that I guess. Lost completely after using Turbotax after at least 18 years of doing my own taxes. Maybe I will try H&R Block next year.

It depends. If you allocate 67% to you, then yes, you would likely have to pay back the premium tax credit if your income is higher than what the credit was calculated based on. You both need to include the 1095-A on your return which will generate form 8962 which is the form where the premium tax credit is reconciled with the advanced premium tax credit. The repayment amount is calculated based on "your share" of the premiums and the credit compared to the percent of federal poverty level that your income is at.
Was this an agreement between the 2 of you? If not, you can agree to any amount to allocate. Since he is paying the policy and the advanced premium tax credit was based on his income, many divorced couples in this situation will allocate 100% to the policy holder and 0% to the non policy holder. Basically, as long as the amounts add up to 100%, you do not have to claim 67% because you are claiming the children.

Here is how to find and use the bank link feature for your 2025 return.
The link option typically appears after you have finished entering your business income.
Go to Wages & Income and select Self-Employment Income and Expenses.
Click Edit/Review next to your business.
Continue through the screens until you reach the "Your [Business Name] info" summary page.
Scroll down to the Expenses section. Look for a blue button or link that says "Connect My Accounts" or "Import Expense Transactions."
If you already started entering expenses manually or if the business was imported from last year, the "Connect" button might not be there. To get around this you can:
Create a "dummy" business.
Select Add another line of work.
Give it a temporary name and enter $1 of income.
When you move to the Expenses section for this new work, the "Connect Accounts" button should reappear.
Once you import your transactions and categorize them, you can move them to your "real" business and delete the dummy one.

If you sold your primary personal residence and you lived in and owned the home for at least two years in the five year period on the date of sale, you do not have to report the sale if your gains are less then the exclusion amounts of $250,000 if filing Single or $500,000 if filing Married Filing Jointly (and both lived in the home for two years).
Gain or Loss = Sales Price minus Sales Expenses minus Adjusted Basis (Purchase Price plus the cost of improvements prior to the sale)
Selling cost can include escrow fees, legal fees, real estate agent commissions, advertising costs, and even home staging fees.
If you had a gain greater then the exclusion amounts then you would have to report the sale. Also, if you received a Form 1099-S for the sale either with a gain or a loss, the sale has to be reported. You will need the online TurboTax Premium edition to report the sale if you are using the online editions. Make sure that you indicate that you want the sale of the home reported on your tax return.
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business) Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business) Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown) Scroll down to Less Common Income On Sale of Home (gain or loss), click the start or update button

If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.
To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings:
Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL.
Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu.
Toggle the switch to ON.
Refresh the page and attempt your import again.
If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play:
Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements.
Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back.
Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.
