Does it say that there has been duplicate use of a Social Security number? That means a return has already been filed using at least one of the SSN's on your tax return. Did someone claim you or one of your dependents already?
If someone else claimed your dependent already, then your e-filed return will be rejected. Print, sign and mail your own return which claims your dependent. Mailed returns are processed differently by the IRS. It will take some time (maybe even up to a year) but eventually the IRS will contact both parties and sort out who could rightfully claim the dependent. The person who wrongfully claimed the dependent will face repayment of refund $, plus penalties.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO. You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)
The deduction is not on the same line as your standard deduction. It is shown separately on line 13b.
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
(The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)
The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. Turbo Tax automatically includes it.

If you are not getting the senior deduction it is because
Your date of birth in MY INFO shows that you were not 65 by the end of 2025
Your income is too high
You are filing married filing separately

If you are filing as Married Filing Separately you are not eligible for the deduction. If you are Single and your AGI is over $175,000 or Married Filing Jointly and your AGI is over $250,000 you are not eligible for the deduction.
If you are age 65 or older and meet the requirement, the additional deduction is automatically added on your federal tax return.
Standard deductions for 2025
Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older
New Bonus Standard Deduction (OBBB): An additional $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65 and older. This is per eligible individual, meaning a married couple both over 65 could get $12,000. Important: This bonus deduction is temporary, lasting from 2025 through 2028. Income limitations: It phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
The amount is calculated on Schedule 1-A, Part V, with that amount flowing to Form 1040 Line 13b

You can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

@ptigue You don't get to transfer in the prior year if you don't have the .tax2024 datafile anymore. _________________ But most people don't really need it...and having your printed documents is great for whatever you might actually need. Usually 1) For E-filing, you need either the AGI from line 11of the 2024 file...or the PIN you might have used last year. 2) IF you used Itemized deductions on Federal last year, and if you received a State refund last year, then you'll need some info from your printed copies to determine if some or all of the state refund is now considered Federla incoem for 2025. But if you use the Std Ded last year, none of any state refund is taxable income for Fed this year. 3) Certain carryover credits might be needed this year, but those should be part of your tax papers form last year....like sometimes people who do Home Energy upgrades to their home...they sometimes can't sue all of it, and have some carryover. 4) Self employed folks sometimes have more trouble without the prior tax file transfer....things like Capital equipment depreciation....or Depreciation $$ for folks who own Rental properties. ____ But most thongs actually needed will be in your printed copies from last year. You just won't have any 2- or 5-yr tax History reports to vies.

Just put down your gross pay. Enter each box in the W-2 exactly as it appears. Whether we like it or not, we pay tax on the gross (before any tax is withheld).

Looks like I'm comment number 91 of people who got suckered into this upsell with 0 use or need for it. I may end up paying simply because I don't have several more hours to commit to redoing my taxes (probably their mindset behind doing this). Greedy, shady, and unethical!

Or do I just put down my Gross Pay?
