I have tried all of this. I have also deleted both 1099-Rs and re-entered them (one is a teacher retirement, the other is income from a financial institution that is a charitable donation). The Retirement Income exclusion does apply and is on the GA Schedule 1, but below that on Schedule 1, the Military Retirement Income Exclusion populates lines 2 and 7. Any other advice?

Thank you so much! I get it now! Closing costs are $1250, so might as well take the small deduction. Appreciate the clarification, this community is great!

Thanks for your reply. In this case, the home I'm renting is my primary residence so I have added the mortgage interest in the official category so that it carries over the correct % to the deductions section. I will try using the "Other or Miscellaneous" expense category for the other expenses that were getting ignored by the summary page. I still believe this is a bug that should be escalated to your product team.

It depends on what you are trying to edit and why.
But, yes, in the forms mode, you are allowed to edit/change/add numbers the entries, in the download/desktop versions of TurboTax. I don't know about the online versions.
One frequent problem, I've seen in this forum, and it carries over from last year, is that TT has allocated $10,0000 of expenses to the tuition credit, instead of the more appropriate $4000 (or $0 if you are not claiming the credit). In the past, TT provided a screen titled “education expenses used for a tax credit”. It was usually prepopulated (often with $10K). You could change it for the amount you want to allocate to the ed credit. So far, this year, I haven't found that screen, even after recent updates.
If you don't get that screen, you can check the student information worksheet. You can manually change it there (line 18). Make the change in the first column, on the left. It was line 17 prior to 2025.

Yes, in the case that you had excess HSA contributions contributed through your employer, which were not withdrawn in a timely manner, then you would end up paying tax on the excess twice.
But, really, only one extra time. If you think about it, the excess should have been taxed the first time anyway, so you are paying tax only one extra time. So there is a real penalty for not withdrawing your excess contribution by the due date of your original return (as extended).

@ThomasM125 this is not correct - "Exempt US Bond Income" is for Federally exempt bonds which are taxable in VA, it's an addition to income not a subtraction. @VA_Perplexed I've been using the miscellaneous addition you describe as Code 99 (+ explanation statement) for the past couple of years without issue, though I stopped buying discounted T-Notes to wind down the hassle and impact of this issue going forward. One other alternative is to add the AMD to a 1099-DIV US Gov Obligations amount, which will not affect Fed return and that will flow that amount to state as a subtraction.

If TurboTax is telling you that your Box D control number is wrong, try leaving it blank. If this does not work, try entering a number like 12345 67890 (5 digits, space, 5 digits). This Control Number is for employer payroll systems and it is not required by the IRS. so this will not affect your tax return.
If this does not work and you imported your Form W-2 try deleting it and re-entering it.
To delete a Form W-2 if you used TurboTax Online you can:
Click on "Tax Tools" in the left panel of your TurboTax screen
Select "Tools"
Click on "Delete a Form"
Scroll down the list of your forms to find your Form W2
Click on the trash can to the right of your form to delete it
To delete a Form W-2 If you used TurboTax Desktop, you can:
Click on "Forms" in the top right of your TurboTax screen to switch to "Forms Mode"
In your left panel of your TurboTax screen find Form W-2
Click on "Delete Form" at the bottom of the form
Click on "Yes" to confirm the deletion
To get back to your W-2 screens in TurboTax you can:
Click on "Search" in the top right of your TurboTax screen.
Type "W-2" in the search bar.
Click on the link "Jump to W-2"
Click here for How do I manually enter my W-2?

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
A 2024 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.
Go to this IRS website for the address to mail, by state - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

The tax filing deadline is next week. Do you recommend all of us that are in the same situation file for an extension and pay the estimated amount so we can wait for Turbo Tax to fix the problem for efiling? I'm very opposed to mailing in my return since it is pretty big and would feel more secure if it can later be efiled if TurboTax accomodates asking for an extension and coordinates anticipated tax liabilities if I owe something.

Leave box d blank (empty) it is not required to e-file a tax return.
If the error persists then delete the W-2 and re-enter manually to clear the error.

You need to add the pass-through amount to the "personal" contributions line on the "Let's enter [name]'s HSA contributions" screen. This field is for all contributions not made through your employer (as shown by the code W amount in box 12 of your W-2).
When TurboTax sees this new contribution and triggers the excess contribution message, you will be asked whether the excess came from employer contributions or personal contributions. The difference is that excess contributions made through your employer get added back to income (because the code W amount is removed from Wages in boxes 1, 3, and 5 on your W-2 when the W-2 is printed). The excess personal contributions just get removed from what would have been your HSA deduction on line 13 on Schedule 1 (1040).
Yes, you will not receive the 1099-SA until some time between now and January 2027. That's OK. TurboTax will automatically take care of your 205 return, and when the 1099-SA shows up, only the earnings in box 2 will be added to income on your 2026 return.
