Thanks, Hal!  I was pretty sure I knew all the guidelines, and I tried three times to check off all of the answers correctly.  I finally gave up and posed my question to the community.    I went back in, entered everything for the fourth time.... and this time it worked!  I got the $500 child tax credit on my 1040.  Then I returned to the community and found your answer.   Now I have a new question:  How can I get that $500 credit for my daughter-in-law?  We were their sole source of support for eleven months.  I answered the questions the same way for her, but Turbo Tax says she is not our dependent.

My wife and I file jointly.  We both receive SS.  I entered my SS amount and my wife's.  I also enter the IRA distribution for 2025.  On the income summary it is correct..  On the page that provides taxable income it is substantial lower.  I can see where my 12,000 senior deduction is.  But the summary is not correct.  It looks like the summary is not adding in my SS.  I took my SS income to 0.00.  Then added it back in again.   No change.  The total income won overview of taxes is lower by a lot. Did the Trump no tax on SS go through :)????? I phoned to get technical support.  No help.  I was unable to speak to a person.   I have used Turbotax for a number of years with no problems.   This year I can not file my  with Turbo tax.  Any suggestions for an alternative?

Hi Experts, Myself and my family we came to USA on July 12, 2025. We didn't satisfy 183 day rule. Is it still  possible to claim Child tax credit for 2025? Me and my wife we have ssn. I have not applied for ITIN yet for my children. If I am not eligible to claim Child tax credit can I file my return without ITIN for my children this year? In TurboTax online filing should I not include them as dependent? Appreciate your inputs. Thanks Nelson

I tried doing a summary but there wasn't anywhere to enter disallowed wash sales summarized on the same 1099.  Referencing this post it was indicated that wash sales must be entered manually so I just decided to enter them all manually to not risk having multiple summaries in the same category that didn't match the 1099.  Both my wash sales and my expired (with value, not expired worthless) call and put options were in short term covered transactions. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-how-to-enter-manually-1099-summary-with-washsales/01/3507183

There is a way to allocate income and expenses for part-year residents of California for situations like this. Please see this thread which I posted several years ago, to see if you can make this work.   Don't do an override in Forms mode, but go to the Step-by-Step mode for California, what I call the interview.   I have done several responses over the years on this subject, so perhaps another one might work better for you.

A law was pasted in 2025 eliminating GPO and WEP penalties in Social Security.  I received a lump sum payment in 2025 from SS for my lost 2024 monies.  I understand this lump sum money can be taxed on my 2024 or 2025 tax rate depending what is best for the taxpayer.  IRS pub 915 have worksheets to determine.  Can 2025 Turbo Tax calculate this and produce appropriate worksheets?  If so where do you enter this info within the Turbo Tax program?

Thank you @BillM223 Yes, the workaround of setting January 2024 to none works for me. With this adjustment, TurboTax’s statement now reflects a zero value: “We calculated [zero] of income must be included in your return this year because of the last-month rule. In rare circumstances, you may need to change this number if your marital status changed in 2024 or 2025.”
I do not see Local Area Network in site information? It has apps on this device?

1. You need to create a fake federal return as MFS to create the KY return you need to file.  If you want to create another online account, you will need to use a different email to create it. We recommend using the desktop version because it allows you to create up to 5 federal returns- the state does cost extra. Since you have already filed, you may want to continue with online. 2. Your spouse is not a KY resident and has no KY income, so there is no need to file. Since KY is your home of record, you must file and exempt your military pay.   To create your state return, follow the steps in How do I prepare a joint federal return and separate state returns?

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.
